just got back from there.. you'll like it, alot better then Cancun IMO ........hanging out on main drag, you'll find plenty to do..beach is great... great restaurants and bars.. had a incident over in Cozumel basically as soon as we got off the Ferry....so personally would stay away from there..
Plenty of shopping.. store after store with Street vendors as well. get use of them coaching you into their store. Don't forget you can haggle with the prices. And most stores have everything the same, so don't worry if you wanted to buy something at one store, you will find it at another store.
Bars and restaurants as well...

daughter crashed and damaged her rental scooter and a residents door.. The way it works there is your gulity of something and the hands are out to get paid or your going to jail.. pretty much extortion... insurance on anything down there is suspect at best and always angled against you..

One of the better "Steak House's " I have ever eaten in is on the lagoon side of Cancun ........Its called Harry's a must !
I go every May and November ( this May we are passing ) . But I am booked November !
