1. when you are on a ramp to enter a pista, DO NOT COME TO A HALT!!!
coast along so you may enter pista not from a stationary position, but from
a moving position. as cars on the pista are moving along at a rapid pace,
and you are starting from a stopped position, there is a chance you might get
slammed in the ass. also, there are more opportunities to enter the pista if you
are already moving.

Driver's licenses come in cereal boxes down here so good luck educating the masses! haha I don't have a car anymore, don't need it. But when I was driving a lot in the city like 5-6 years ago it was like urban warfare.. Everybody bangs the hell out of their horn 100's of times a day, but they can't find the damn turn signal which is maybe a couple inches away.

leave a car length in front of you. this is not an invitation for other drivers to pull in front of you; it's a safety precaution.

this would be useful IF the ramps had sufficient lenght but in most cases they are not long enough nor the acceleration lane exists, plus remember that once you are in the pista everyone is at MAX speed

while I agree with you, I settle with this one

DO NOT @#$@#!$ STOP in the middle of anywhere and then turn your emergency lights on as if you are somehow that makes it ok.......that one pisses the living @#$#@$# out of me

You mean that the hazard lights aren't a general "Park Anywhere" button I can use at any time to stop right in front of you, park, and get out of the car? Seems like that is the norm...

2. left lane is the passing lane. right lane and middle lane if applicable are for cruising.
cruising in left lane without passing is selfish and inconsiderate.

3. putting 2 rules in class today . i must agree with the above poster.
in a street with one lane each way you cannot stop to speak with another.
the cars behind you are not expecting it and of course it slows traffic--we
certainly don't need that. and, yes, putting on emergency lights doesn't
make it right. try and look for a shoulder or safe and spacious space to pull over.

4. letting cars in!
hey, i'm all for being considerate, except under this condition.
you're driving in a street and there are no stop signs or traffic lights.
a car wants to pull in front of you so you stop; no hand signal or no flashers
so, if you think about it there are cars behind you driving at a normal velocity
and they cannot read your mind that you want to stop in the middle of a street
where there are no reasons to stop. i suggest waiting for traffic to come to a standstill
and therefore all cars are moving along slowly so a sudden stop with or without signalling
should not cause an accident.

5. TURNING
when turning right onto a two lane cross street, believe it or not you may turn if the right lane is free. no need to wait
for both left and right lanes to be free of oncoming cars.
8. TURNING
it is more appropriate to turn left from the left lane and to turn right from the right lane. can't tell you how often i see
drivers soing this in recerse.

9. one more today--PARKING
no parking within 10 meters of intersection!. why? those who wish to turn right on red will not be hindered.
buses, trucks, other large vehicles will have it easier by having more space on the turn

My favorite is the practice of speeding up into a red light to ensure that nobody can make a left turn in front of you. The only way to get anywhere in San Jose is to call their bluff and just put yourself in the middle of the road to force them to stop (its a red light afterall, they aren't going anywhere). At this point, like typical non-confrontational Ticos, they will not only stop (the alternative is T-boning you), but they will flash their lights and give you a warm waving hand gesture indicating that it was their intention to stop to allow you to make a turn in front of them from the beginning.

morning traffic in front of the intersection of the highway and sabana park. multiple cars block the intersection to cross the street in order to make the next light (going towards fogo brazil). I have seen an entire light come and go because a BMW has to block both lanes. horns hoinking. people yelling and the schmuck just sits there. looks straight ahead and doesn't even acknowledge anyone else. Gotta love it.

thanks for co operating with your input, gentlemen. 10 heads are better than one. i especially
like the one about rushing to block an intersection. nowhere to go, so why not be considerate
for the cars crossing in front of us. that will be officailly numer 10.

11. as far as i know unless noted and if possible and feasible right turns on red are permitted.
helps the flow of traffic.

12. creating your own lane or using service roads which both must merge into main lane----absolutely ruins
the flow of traffic. i.e. lindora--no stop signs, no traffic lights, yet at most times stop and go and cars use service
roads to save @ 1 minute. as they need to merge, those in the correct lane must wait and wait as they bully
themselves in line. what would happen if everyone used the main road??? wouldn't traffic just flow????
