In your opinion.....

As long as they have your real name, date of birth, address, email, etc in your account.... Should a sportsbook turn away a customer or customers who may not want to hand over their phone number to prevent cold calling or for other privacy reasons?

They should require an account number and a password and nothing more.

..and in a perfect world, a routing # to send your winnings to.

I don't see a phone # as being a dealbreaker either way. I just give them my land-line...which i never answer.

BTW..anyone who asks for it, is selling it.

The problem is some of the books are relentless calling you once they get your number.

because there are a lot of scammers out and bonus whores out there. I have seen guys open up over 30 accounts using phone name, emails and phone numbers. WHY? Mainly because they want the initial 100% bonus every single time. That's only one example as to why its only smart for any business, like online betting sites, to have legitimate information. Not to mention CC fraud.

Why does someone put a phone phone number anyways? If they don't want calls then all they need to do is tell the company "I don't want calls". What did that take ... 4 seconds? Yes there are exceptions. Not everyone that adds fake information when opening accounts is a scammer. If they are legit but just didn't want calls and they figured putting in someone else's phone number is the best thing to do at the time, I reopen all those accounts.

I am sure your local guy would really appreciate it if you gave him someone elses cell number when he called to collect.

I seriously doubt that a Sportsbook would Turn Away Your Business If You Refuse To Give Up Your Phone Number. Temporarily suspending it until they find out why you are provide a fake number is another question.

I have opened up many accounts where the person doesn't want to provide email address or phone number. Which is fine. But adding fake info is silly. If the number is fake, what reason would anyone expect any other information like name, date of birth, address, email is true? No reason is the answer.

one more point about this ...

Isn't the relationship with any book or local bookie, one of mutual respect and trust? It is to me. Why start off any relationship with lies?

Try and imagine if you hooked up with a local guy and after the first week you were ready to collect and when you called him to arrange a time to meet, you ended up getting Ethel from Hermosa Beach? How about the same for an online book? Would you deal with one that didn't put a toll free number on there website? Or even worse, they have a number that belongs to a sperm bank in Jersey?

You don't wants calls? Fine. They will add notes NOT TO CALL.
You don't want emails? Fine. They will take you off the mailing list.

Bullshit, Scott ! They will call anyway. I used to transpose a couple of digits "accidently".

Sometimes I'd put in 000-000-0000 or an old phone #

These guys call when you say not too, CRIS was really bad about it, but most will call except for top books like Pinny and 5dimes.

ok, have there been times where someone's called when the notes specifically say NO CALLS? Sure there have. Is it the end of the world? probably not. Can it be a nuisance for the player? Of course. That's why we add notes. Usually cause by human error or the player opened up another account but it would be foolish for any place to purposely call someone that has NO CALLS beside the number. I would suspend that person or fire him if he did it on purpose.

Come on, let's not make an issue out of this. Whenever I open an account I always make a point of asking whether there are any special instructions I should add beside the number in case you have a wife or girlfriend? Many of you know this when you called me to open your accounts. Most reply with"naw its my private cell" or "I prefer emails" or "this is my work number so I would prefer no calls" or "wife doesn't care" or "call only when its important" or whatever.

Guys this is a relationship that hopefully with last several years based on trust and if its such a huge inconvenience for you to simply make a quick request, then I really don't get it to be honest. Thankfully 99.9999999999% just provide correct info and don't have an issue with that. Nor should they.

Books want everything to be confidential and discreet. Like I said earlier, its a 2-way street. You wouldn't deal with a local bookie or online book that never gave you a real phone number would you?

Actually Scott I've found out that some (Or at least one) will.

As with most software, it won't submit if a required field is left empty.

Thus, the reason a random, oddball number was entered.

Then, when the login would not work, and the company was contacted, they told the customer that the account was locked because an invalid phone number was entered.

When the customer explained the reason (didn't want them calling) he did not want to list his number, they told him "Then The Account Will Remain Closed".

So he said fine whatever.

That's poor business and what makes it even worse is that since they knew it was an invalid number that means that they had already attempted to call him ! The exact reason he didn't wan't to include it in the first place...

well in my 10 years in the industry I have seen that happen. I mean assuming its just because of the number and NO other reason. Remember, they are a business that exist because people deposit money. Right?

That's poor business and worst of all since they knew it was an invalid number that means that they had already attempted to call him !

well that is almost impossible to believe to be honest. Almost. Also, there are people in those businesses that make errors. Common sense would tell most people to evaluate these kind of scenarios on a case by case basis. If the players says I entered a bad number in case you guys decided to call but we could verify email address and name, then you re-open the account. That sounds logical to me. Again, this is such a miniscule number of accounts and usually these players are drama queens and complainers about every single thing. Not all mind you.

Most players never have these issues but just open an account, enter correct information, make their deposit and bet. Thank GOD that's how it works 99% of the time. Just as in everyday life, the world is full of nice wonderful things that happen all the time but when its time for the news, what do they show? Ya, the ugly side.

what about the deaf?
I have several deaf players. Live chat is so helpful for people that can't hear. Here's a note that I put in a deaf players account ... "DON'T CALL" and under detailed notes .. "player is deaf, use email only"
