Taking a look at the top 2 coaches in the Big 12 conference. Mack Brown of Texas and Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.

Mack Brown
Brown began his career at Appalachian State (1 yr) and then Tulane (3 yrs) as few may remember. Brown had mild success with both schools before taking over at North Carolina. After ten years with the Tar Heels, he moved to Texas in 1998. With the Long Horns, he was known as "not being able to win the big one" until Vince Young led the Horns to the 2005 national championship against USC, thus quieting many of his critics. Brown enters the 2012 season with a 141-39 record at Texas and 227-113-1 (66.7%) overall record.

Bob Stoops
Stoops will be entering his 14th season as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, a program he has turned into a national Top-10 team, In just his second season, Stoops led Oklahoma to a perfect 13-0 season and the national championship and he won AP Coach of the Year Award. Coming into the 2012 season, Stoops has a 139-34 (80.3%) record.

Hard to fault either coach. With 25 seasons of football between them, and only one losing season among the bunch. That's pretty solid. Brown has done a good job when you compare who they had before him with Mackovic and McWilliams. Much like what OU went through with John Blake and Smellyburger before hiring Stoopsy. I just wish medium game Bob had more MNC's to brag about.

both turned around programs
both great recruiters

Mack appears to be better at big BCS games, cheerleading, and getting good assistant coaches. Otherwise Stoops has the advantage on all other fronts.

Texas should have a better team this year. If their n00b QB progresses from his Freshman year mediocrity to a better game manager and they can find someone to run the "wild fozzy" they could be a top 20 squad. This might be Mack's last year to win the RRS
