Can a player from a different country play for any team during the Euro Cup? In other worde, can a player born in Brazil play for say Germany even though no residence or affiliation?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Don't think they have to be Born in that Country, but it helps.

Other ways I Believe are, their Parents could have been born there... or they can Live in that country for 5 years or more.

I know in the past there have been complaints about most of a Team coming from somewhere else.

So can they or can they not 'recruit' their team for the euro cup from any population regardless of country of residence or where they were born?

Thanks Bet All Sports. Didnt quite button it down for me there hence my follow up question. No disrespect, i do appreciate your response.

pretty sure you or your parents had to be born in the country or you have been granted legal citizenship for the country. becky hammon of the wnba will play basketball for russia in the olympics, but neither her or her parents are russian. she has just been playing oversea's in leagues there for years

Correct answer from wolf.

Adding: There are players who have played for two countries but only at different levels i.e. und 21 for one country and full international for another.

what wolf said...of course there are players who have dual citizenship...and they usually play for the superior country...ie. giuseppe rossi...who most american footy fans feel is a trader...but the end joke has been on him since he most likely will never get a whiff of the national side ever again...meanwhile, a front 3 of donovan, rossi, and dempsey would actually seem some what formidable on the national level for the united states

this is an old stat and with the globalized world we live in, it may not be no longer valid

but when it happened, it was interesting, only one person played against his own birth country in a World Cup game, alexandre guimaraes who played in a World Cup game , Costa Rica versus Brazil in 1990 (we lost 2-1)

I believe it was 1-0.

its the same way in every sport isn't it? I remember when Brett Hull decided to play for team USA rather than Canada but he had duel citizenship
