On the Road is a 2012 film adaptation of the Jack Kerouac cult classic novel of the same name. It is a Brazilianhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Road_(film)#cite_note-Kemp-1-French-UKhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Road_(film)#cite_note-Kemp-1-UShttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Road_(film)#cite_note-Kemp-1 co-production, directed by Walter Salles and starring Sam Riley as Sal Paradise and Garrett Hedlund as Dean Moriarty. It is being executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Filming began on August 4, 2010, in Montreal, Canada, with a $25 million budget.
The story is based on the years Kerouac spent travelling the United States in the 1940s with his friend Neal Cassady and several other figures who would go on to fame in their own right, including William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.
On May 23, 2012, the film premiered in competition for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The film received mixed early reviews after it premiered at the film festival

I've heard many people rave about this book over the years. Not sure why I haven't read it yet, but I will before seeing the movie, which looks great.

holmes-all hollywood can muster these days is remakes of once fine films..there is absolutely no soul or inventiveness in most films now....now you say you've never read the book correct?....On the Road was my bible as a kid...it's what made me become a musician and travel the world 2x's over...there were no rules...and the characters were just that...characters...this movie has a bunch of young actors who obviously had no clue about the beat generation...hence the director having them do a 'beatnik bootcamp'...that's a lil appalling.....there were no freaking ipods or text messages with jack and neal(dean and sal)...i don't know...things like this kinda bend me the wrong way...like is there anything sacred anymore?....a movie like this, i guess not...

Well, you never know, maybe they'll surprise you. Despite the bullshit Twilight teen movies she's made, Kristen Stewart is a solid actor. She was great as Joan Jett in the movie about The Runaways, and was also excellent in Adventureland, a coming -of-age movie that takes place in the 1980s.

Both of those movies are examples of good movies that are being made, but don't get wide release at theaters. Most of the movies that get promoted and dominate the theaters are remakes, cartoons and comic book movies, most of which appeal to kids. There are good movies being made, but they're harder find.

I'm hoping that one of these days producers and directors of quality movies will realize that they can make more movie releasing movies online (e.g. iTunes) rather than fighting to get their films into theaters.

How long did you travel the world? Did you play with bands?

But you're right, she is a good actress.
In the first Twilight movie I thought she was ugly as well, but she grows on you.
Has great legs too... :)
