The Most STUPIDEST thing I ever heard of in my Life :>(

A South Carolina mother says she was humiliated when she was arrested during her daughter's high school graduation last weekend in Florence, S.C., for cheering too loudly.

But police say Shannon Cooper's shouting was nothing short of disorderly conduct.
"I am still living in shock," Cooper told msnbc.com. "It all seems like a bad dream, a nightmare of what was to be one of the happiest days of our lives. I cheered for my baby and I got the cuffs."

Cooper said she was whooping it up when her 18-year-old daughter, Christin Iesha Cooper, walked across the stage to get her diploma from South Florence High School on June 2.

"I am a proud mom," said Cooper, a beautician from Florence. "And as soon as they said 'Christin' I stood up, started praising, woohooing and cheering it up for my baby. I was like 'Go baby! You did it'."

Florence Police Chief Anson Shells said people attending the ceremony had been warned to behave during commencement ceremonies. If they failed to do so, they would be escorted out, he said.

“The school district made an announcement and sent out letters to all of the parents for everyone to be as orderly as they can during the ceremony and so on and so forth,” Shells told msnbc.com. “That was the rule.”

Cooper doesn't think she did anything wrong. She said police arrested her as she made her way down the stairs and onto the auditorium's main floor. She said officers walked her across the Florence Civic Center, where the graduation ceremony was being held, in full view of everyone.

"The police officer pointed his finger at me and said 'Stop right here. The lady right there in white, she's going to jail'," Cooper said. "The whole time I was thinking in my mind 'Are you all serious? You for real?' I didn't say anything. I was shocked."

Cooper was charged with disorderly conduct and booked in Florence County Detention Center, where she stayed for several hours until posting a $225 bond, according to WPDE-TV, an ABC affiliate in Myrtle Beach, S.C. "I didn't do any more than the others did. Which I feel like no one should have gone to jail," she said.

Cooper's daughter told WPDE-TV she didn’t know what had happened to her mom until her friends filled her in. "They're locking your momma up for cheering -- and I was like that isn't right because other people were cheering and they didn't lock them up," she said.

Shells told msnbc.com two others were arrested during the commencement service.
“They were disruptive enough that officers felt they had to be removed and that they had violated the law,” Shells said.

Shells said 30 officers were stationed at the convention center that evening to monitor a crowd of 9,000 people. South Florence High School had 407 students graduating that night, he said.

“According to the report, she was disruptive during the ceremony and ceremonies are considered solemn occasions,” Shells said. “Everybody wants to hear their child’s name called and everyone was asked to be respectful and to be quiet.”
Cooper said the family celebrated her daughter's special day on Sunday with a barbecue. She said she wants to put the day behind her, but finds it difficult at the moment.

Said Cooper: "Disorderly conduct? What's the disorderly conduct? How was I so disorderly you know any different from just a happy parent? It was a lot of hard work to get my baby to this point, you know? I wanted to celebrate. I wanted to shout out my joy."

Good for the police and school for cracking down on this. It is absolutely ridiculous! I attended my nieces graduation and it was appalling!

The names are read quickly, as there are several hundred grads, and these families act like rabid, un-tamed animals! They carry on, cheer, rant and behave like wild animals. Seriously! There's no other way to describe it.

They carry on and the crowd misses the next several names that are called. They simply don't care...and it seems they try to out-do each other.

They are given specific instructions beforehand...but do they care? Fuck no!

Too bad this woman ruined a nice graduation for the other grads and families that attended.

Absolutely Coach. Act like you been there before. High school graduation is like eighth-grade graduation years ago. No big deal unless no one from your family graduated before. Save your whoops and hollers for college graduation. Her "baby" hasn't done anything yet and mamma has to go off like its a last-second winning TD in the Super Bowl. Ha. I can just imagine imagine what the other respectful parents were thinking. Jeezus Christ bitch, STFU.

She claims she was just cheering (like everybody else), but then says she was making her way down to the main floor.

Nice final parenting lesson for the kid - rules only apply when you want them to.

I think Rick is onto something. As messed up as it sounds, schools have to do something to control the families otherwise its utter chaos at the ceremony. My undergrad ceremony was out of control for this very reason -- people blowing foghorns and cheering, even when the names weren't being called.

I didn't even have to open the link to know what type of person this was. They do not care about anyone else at the ceremonies. This is typical of the black culture. This is the way most of them act. The few ruin it for the rest

I seen situations like this where 'the victim' is being unruly arguing with the police officer, things snowball and keep on escalating. They are then arrested and claim they were arrested for the reason they were approached by the officer in the 1st place.
About a month ago I was I seen a lady get arrested at the grocery store. She was in the parking lot loading her grocerys into her car when her purse fell from her cart. There was a slight breeze so papers were blowing everywhere (I could understand her frustration) I police officer was driving thru the parking lot and asked if she was ok. She started screaming at him, cussing and was seconds away from hitting the guy. He was very calm offered to help her pick up her stuff. She got even crazier with him claiming he was stealing her stuff. I was about to drive away but I am now just sitting in my car watching everything play out. Sat there for about 15 min until finally he tells her if she doesnt calm down he is going to detain her. She got in his face and spit on him, threatening to kill him. He cuffs her and she is claiming racism and she is being arrested for dropping her purse

Since when does some rule people are told about at a school turn into a law? This country has got way out of hand when it comes to police state tactics.

No, It's just that the principal or whomever said that people shouldn't act that way, is not her boss, superior, or a person that can compel adults to do anything. The fact the police took up the task to "enforce" cheering as disorderly conduct is disgusting. Put simply, just because some low level administrator has a certain degree of authority in certain venues, does not transfer to the whole society, or become law. This woman should fight this obviously bogus charge, it would have no chance in court.

Did you approach the police officer and at least offer to be a witness?

+1

From what I remember of my graduation, there was an occasional golf clap that took place. Other than that there were no problems of hearing anyone's name called. Its fucking High School, are people really that hard up to make a big deal of HS??

Ofcourse I grew up in nice area where college was looked up as mandatory, let alone HS.
