Second best switch hitter of all time. Third best 3rd baseman of all time.

Whose the one guy you've got in front of Chipper?

Pete Rose
Mickey Mantle
Eddie Murphy
Robbie Alomar

I think it's difficult to put Chipper in front of either Rose (4K hits), Mantle (536 HRs), or Murphy (500/3000)...

I've got Chipper 4th on my all-time list of switch hitters.

And I'm guessing you've got him behind Mike Schmidt and George Brett in 3rd basemen...

I've got Chipper 5th on my list of all time 3rd basemen behind Schmidt, Brett, Eddie Matthews and Brooks Robinson.

But he's a slam dunk first ballot HOFer for sure...

Second best switch hitter is extremely close

I'll take Jones over Murray for playing a tougher position

Fourth best is Robin Roberts, the best pitcher in the league a few years in the 50s. Then Rose, very poor infielder, very good outfielder

Top 10 thirdbaseman
1 Mike Schmidt
2 Eddie Mathews
3 George Brett
4 Wade Boggs
5 Jones
6 Ron Santo
7 Brooks Robinson
8 Darrell Evans
9 Home Run Baker
10 Scott Rolen

Santo obp .362
Robinson obp .322

Even if we don't include his down years, Robinson was still only .330 in 2300 games. That's an extra 43 times on-base and 43 fewer outs per 162 games. Even the best defensive player ever wasn't worth 43 outs over one of the better fielders in the league

Then Santo has even more of an edge with slugging percentage

A couple great World Series performances can't make up for the edge Santo has over an entire career

Jones and Boggs are even further ahead, even when adjusting for playing when far more runs were scored

111%

Jones homered off Brad Penny in the 11th. The homer, Jones' eighth, gave him 1,596 career RBIs, matching George Brett's record for third basemen.

Chipper Jones is one of my all time favorite players - -- been such a joy watching him play.
What a clutch player he has been all these years. He will be a first ballot hall of famer in 5 years.
