huge rating hit last night.

pregame for nba had a 4.6 rating, nhl final game had a 4 rating.

more people watched the nba pregame show then watched stanley cup finals game 6. nhl got a long way to go.

Long way to go to do what? This is a league that halted its existance for 2 years just what 6-7 years ago?

I think NHL has recovered quite nicely from that (I'm not a hockey fan at all, don't watch 1 game a year)

NBA on the other hand, however, is more popular than ever it feels like. Definitely going in opposite direction from baseball...

Proves there are more black people in the U.S. than white people in Canada. Who cares?

Well it proves a lot more than that. To do an 11.8 rating with a small market and medium market team in the NBA finals is really strong for the NBA.

Celtics/Lakers in '08 and '10 didn't do 11s I don't believe.

Sports in general is just in a really good spot in terms of ratings these days, it is the only appointment viewing TV left with netflix, tivo, dvr, hulu making everything else avail on delay.

NBA is very strong right now - some of the ratings for the Celts/Heat series were way up there.

Not really surprising considering every game was regularly beat out by network tv show reruns. The Nhl should just move to Canada or condense into 3 teams....USA,Canada, and Russia. lol

there gonna strike when the next collective bargaining happens.

ive said it before, will say it again. by the end of this decade, MLS will surpass the NHL in terms of ratings, merchandise, sponsorship, and tv revenue.

sad that you wish ill on a sport that is 100 times more entertaining than the glorified and 1 ball that the nba is promoting.

LeBron is good for the NBA. They would not be getting these ratings if it was just Durant vs Duncan in the Finals.

I wonder how badly it got crushed by 'Storage Wars'. Someday soon, the NHL is going to have to go with a PPV network for these playoff games. There are very dedicated niche fans that would pony up the cash.

I'm stunned that the 'major networks' still pay for the rights for even the Stanley Cup Finals.

there is no easy answer. when you have pregame shows beating the final game of the season you know you have a problem though.

I enjoy watching hockey...hell I used to play it...but I just haven't found myself being compelled to watch the playoffs this season. I watched about 15 minutes total of the Cup Finals - just couldn't get into it for some reason. Now the NBA conference finals, well, I watched every minute of every game. I am really critical of the product the NBA puts out on a nightly basis, but these playoffs have been spectacular. IMO they have had everything that a fan could possibly want. I wonder how badly the NBA finals will beat the NHL finals.
