With every no hitter it becomes less special IMO.
I still rate PERFECT games in the very special category.
What CAIN did last night IMO is one of the 3 greatest pitched games statistically in MLB history.

But the no hitter(although still a great feat) is not extra special anymore.

There are other things like hitting for the cycle etc... that does not get near the hype of a no hitter that happens just as rarely as a no hitter.

Do you people realize just how close we came last night to having 2 perfect games withen the same hour?

If Wright would have made that play you would have had 2.

Now you are having no hitters seemingly every week now.

Heck even the Mets are getting into the act these days.

Nothing loses it's luster fans will storm the court in college basketball even when they are favored, and last plaCe teams will act like they won the World Series when a walk-off single happens for a win in August...

I have always said no hitters are overrated. I love how a guy who gives up 1 hit and 0 walks simply gets a slap on the ass, but the guy who gives up 0 hits and 9 walks gets mobbed and placed in history books. It really is silly.

I agree with this. A no-hitter with a 9 walks, is it still special? Of course not. A perfect game is the real deal.

Didn't MLB change the rules of what they consider a no-hitter?

It's an amazing feat. But the perfect game is the most impressive feat in sports....

it happens against too many shitty lineups. I want to see the yanks, tigers, or rangers get no-hit.

jake, didn't notice it was you at first with that new avatar... hope vegas is treating you well......

Chop, IMO the no hitter has already lost its luster....

They have the 1st no hitter in 1876... Since then, 277 no hitters...

From 2000-2009 there was 15 no hitters..... from 2010-2012 (still plenty of season left) we already had 14 no nos.

I was going to make my point that its already become more common, but I remembered the steriod era. so i went back the previous decade

1990-1999 there were 31 no hitters

1980-1989 there were 13 no hitters...

I understand there will be swings in baseball, some way in football, off vs def...... we we are 3 years into it averaging 5 no nos a year....

Were on pace for 50 no nos this decade.... Over the lifetime of baseball the average is 10 a decade

Bobo Holloman in the 50's piched a nohitter in his 1st major league start, he also had 2 hits in 3AB's. I his major league career he won 2 more games.

It's just one win, rarely a complete game no hitter !

It could be just the difference between reality and the official scorer ( aren't they just newspaper reporters or something ? ), Calling a hit an error or a hit ?

Win the game, not the stats game, like a closer does !

If I were a pitcher, it would mean nothing to me, because it is so arbritary !

Vida Blue did one so stoned on LSD, he proy didn't even know what city he was in.
