Brien Taylor indicted on 3 counts
ESPN.com news services

Former New York Yankees pitching prospect Brien Taylor has been indicted on three counts of distributing crack cocaine.
Taylor, the No. 1 overall draft selection in 1991, was indicted Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in North Carolina.
The 40-year-old Taylor was arrested on March 2 after selling large quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine to an undercover narcotics agent over a span of several months.
Taylor got a then-record $1.55 million signing bonus from the Yankees. But after excelling at Double-A in 1993, he got into a fight that winter and injured his pitching shoulder. He was never the same after major surgery.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report

I bought 100 of his rookie cards at 8 bucks a piece back when that was huge money thinking it would make me rich one day.
Did the same thing with Todd Van Poppel around that same time.

Don't feel bad.. I quit collecting a bit before Taylor. One of my main rookie 'investments' was Barry Bonds. I have a binder full of Bonds cards from 86-89 stored away in the closet with about 300 of them rookies. Ironically, those aren't worth much more than the Taylors. Should have sold them about 10 years ago.

The Upper Deck was getting pretty good money when I started getting out of cards around '90 or so. I think that I took them to a card shop and got 100 bucks total for four of them. That sounds like a good price now, but I was kicking myself for awhile during the HR chases in the late 90's, because I think they peaked out and were pulling almost 100 a piece. Somebody told me one time that Upper Deck employees were printing those Griffey rookies by the sheet for years. Not sure if that's true or not.

Clearly a possibility....it's not like you'd have the security levels of the US mint, or BEP ( currency and stamp printing). It would be pretty easy for a card printer to fudge some stuff, IMO !
