Looking for a service that you can get a local phone number and have that number ring and go to voicemail. I see some that are between $9-$15 per month with all this extra crap that I do not need. I just want a local number that I can pick and have it ring 4 or 5 times and go to voicemail. Twice a day I would call that number and enter my passcode and get my messages. Might be listing in the upcoming phone books and do not want to use my personal number. Thanks

Have you looked into Voip ??

I did a while ago, I think they were like $5.99 a month or so

Didn't go with them because the hosting Company for my wifes business gave one out Free. But Voip looked like it was a good one.

I'm looking for something like voicenation or freedomnumber. Don't want anything going through my computer because of slow service and problems that I'm always having with Verizon. My location sucks.

try google voice (100% FREE from google ).. lets u pick (if available) a phone number and then u can get voicemails and/or calls sent to your cell phone/ forwarded anywhere/ or even get texts to that number also.

other advantages is it allows u to make free calls to canada and long distance in usa, and if u have verizon/tmobile/or another phone providers where u get friends and family or fab 5, u can add that number and virtually all calls to and from it can be like u are calling a friend ;) (hidden way to get unlimited mins)

here is the website for u to sign up and read more - https://support.google.com/voice/bi...edium=GettingStarted&utm_campaign=guide=22635

here is a video

Thanks Murph. What I really want is a local number that people call and I set the number of rings then it goes to voicemail. I then have to call that number and punch in my passcode to get the messages.

u can choose whether or not to fwd ur calls to ur phone with google voice.. u would choose no for that option ;)

all the voicemail features u are hoping to get(local number/number of rings/etc) and dozens of others are there.. u can even create features for a fee if u would like.. definitely check it out.. the number will be local (u can even pick it urself.. like use the same last 4 numbers u have as convenience)

I suggest u consider my example though and use it.. setup google voice.. dont fwd the "calls" but allow ur access to g-voice on ur phone by getting the app from the market. Then u can visually read and/or listen to the voicemails AS they come in.. u can also decide if u want to "answer" the call in the middle of the voicemail. HA.. what a feature :toast:

One last thing, I was able to get a local number, but will the number I have continue to be valid?? Don't want to put an add in the book along with spending close to $1K, then have no working number. I would be totally screwed, cause you can't change something that was already printed......

the number is yours forever if u want it.

the reason why people love google voice is because that number is now urs.. and u can give it out to people and switch phones /carriers/etc and always fwd the calls or have those voice mails everywhere anytime u need. if in the future google charges for the service they have said that they would grandfather people in more than likely.. google makes the money off the advertising and the premium services.. i dont think they will charge for the basic service they have offered for free for a while now.
