Kevin Youkilis may be moved soon
BOSTON -- A trade of Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis could happen at any time now, two officials involved in trade talks told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. On Friday night, the Chicago White Sox were perceived to be one of the frontrunners.

The Red Sox have talked with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks about Youkilis, among other teams. One executive involved indicated on Friday night the White Sox were thought to be competing with an NL team, and the Red Sox were going through the process of trying to nudge offers one last time.

Youkilis
Arizona is said to be out of the running. The Braves reportedly have scouted Youkilis repeatedly in the past week.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said he talked with Youkilis on Friday about decreased playing time. Youkilis, while not happy about it, understood Valentine's decision.
"He doesn't necessarily totally agree with it and doesn't wake up in the morning and hope that's the case, but I think the professional person that Kevin is, he understands it," Valentine said. "Yes, I think he's fine."
For the first time since coming off the disabled list on May 22, Youkilis is out of the starting lineup for two consecutive games. The fact that it comes in the wake of a monster performance by fellow third baseman Will Middlebrooks on Thursday night begs the question: Has there been a concrete shift at third base from the veteran Youkilis to the rookie Middlebrooks?
For Friday night's series opener against Atlanta, Valentine said he's simply going with the guy who is swinging a good bat.
"Today, I'm riding the hot hand," Valentine said. "Tomorrow might not be the case. I always reserve the right to change my mind."
But Valentine did say he had a discussion with Youkilis about the situation and expects his veteran to adjust to any part-time role that emerges.

survival of the fittest at its finest....guy was replaced by a better player....happened with brady and bledsoe

redsox are a team in a little bit of disarray right now with an identity crisis, leadership problems, injuries etc...but ill say this much they got some young young talent (middlebrooks being 1 guy) on this team and with the money they can spend in the free agency market they have the potential to build a very strong team in the not to distant future

Yeah when you can spend 2-3x more than your competition the future always looks bright.

Great system baseball has.

Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge to Boston. He couldn't play worse than Orlando Hudson. The other 3B has a serious back injury and no idea when he's coming back.

ITS BETTER TO BE IN FIRST PLACE !!!!

White Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis went 1 for 4 in his second game since being acquired from the Red Sox. He said he's getting a little more used to life in another organization after the hectic relocation. ''It's not my team anymore,'' he said of the Red Sox. ''It's better to be in first place rather than on the bottom.''

I'll take under.

I'm sure a .250 average , 8HR 35 RBI 2nd half would be fine with CWS. Youk would have to have to put up crazy numbers for his team option of something like 13M to be picked up for next year.

He's a cheap rental.

NEW YORK—Kevin Youkilis is leaving the major leagues after an injury-plagued season and heading to Japan.

The three-time all-star has agreed to a one-year contract with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League, agent Joe Bick said Friday.

Youkilis, a 34-year-old first baseman and third baseman, will have a $4 million base salary and can earn $1 million bonuses — including some based on walks, a provision not allowed in major league contracts.

After nine seasons with the Boston Red Sox, Youkilis signed a $12 million, one-year deal with the New York Yankees. But a back injury limited him to 28 games, and his season ended June 13.
