i don;t think there are too many that are true about being successful at the end of a year.there probably is a few,but what i really doubt is the amout of what people say on here and other forums about how much they wager.i mean i see people saying they have 10k,going on this game,5k that tey collected, and all the other crazy amounts stated here.most people wager 25,50 100,maybe 200 at times but really its mostly bullshit if you ask me.
I'm with you on this one: There are certainly some guys on here, that are betting thousands per game like f.e. BAS. But lots of posters on the forums, claiming they're betting 4 or even 5-figures, are not even close to betting that amount.
Also agree with eoghater, that a fair share of people claiming to be winning players are up for the present, maybe even 2 seasons, but will eventually end up losing. Most of the time winning in these cases winning early on was mistaken as having an edge, when in reality they just got lucky and ran better than EV (in a very limited amount of bets, that's not large enough to really make a good prediction about your EV) and over time luck just evens out...
For me personally it all depends on the sport/league:
I'm doing very well betting baseball, ok in college football and have a very small edge in NFL. Additionally there are lots of other +EV opportunities for me (f.e. Scandinavian or Brazilian soccer, player props on NFL/MLB, etc.), but I for one never could really figure out how to beat NBA: I tried, even finished slightly ahead one year, but over several years I ended up losing a bit and even had my performance getting worse. So I just quit betting NBA. I beat College basketball 3 season in a row, even at a decent rate, but then my edge just faded away and I ended up being a losing player in college hoops and forced myself to quit betting NCAAB because of this.
Also I could hardly make 6 figure profits every year, even if I wanted: I settled down to bet somewhere between 200-800 bucks per bet, with probably 80-90% being around 400-500 bucks. That's where I feel comfortable and it's enough to comfortably live my life the way I want to. So on the one hand I don't want to bet higher, on the other hand probably 30% of my profits are made on bets, where I couldn't bet higher because of limits, even if I wanted to (and odds crash once you bet 400-500 bucks).
So don't know how many people on here claim to be winning players in the long run, but the percentage should be rather low if you required them to do it for several years. You need to constantly adjust and in my opinion there are quite a few people who realize too late, that their edge is gone or just flat out refuse to acknowledge that fact. Pretty similar thing in poker (you see lots of formerly successful online players broke nowadays).
