The NBA fined Amare Stoudemire $50,000 for his use of a gay slur in a Twitter message, the league announced Tuesday.

Stu Jackson, the league's executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the fine Tuesday in a release, calling Stoudemire's language offensive and derogatory.

The New York Knicks forward apologized to a fan on Sunday for using a gay slur in response to a crude tweet in which the fan admonished the All-Star to "make up for this past season."

These guys can elbow someone in the face and get a $20K fine, but oh boy, if you use the word "fag" (even in private conversation) then all hell breaks lose.

In the UK, Scotland Yard has banned the words 'blacklist' and 'whitelist' because of claims that the words are racist.
The Sun reports that Scotland Yard Security Services Chief Brian Douglas wrote in an email: “IB (Information Board) are uncomfortable with the use of the term Whitelist (and I presume Blacklist)."
“I am sure we can appreciate the sensitivity around the use of such terminology today so please ensure it is no longer used.”

So these two Amish ladies were harvesting potatos one afternoon. Digging them up with a spade and placing them into a small wooden wagon.

One of the Amish ladies dug a pair of spuds from a hill, that were exceptionaly large and firm. She held them in her hand admiring them and said "These remind me of my husbands balls"

The 2nd Amish ladies eyes sparkled as she said "Your husbands balls are that big?"

Amish lady #1 then said, "No they are this dirty" as she looked down at the freshly dug potatos.

I've worked for and with gay people..got a couple friends that are, I mean who doesn't these days. But this is absolutely ridiculous..

Would/should he be fined if he showed up at an anti abortion rally, or gay rights Pride festival ??

but..in a Libertarian US..Stern should have every right to do this...if the script was flipped though..imagine the outcry from civil liberties people

The story went like this I THINK...

Some dude tweeted to Amare something to the effect, "I hope you come back in shape or more determined" or something to that effect. Amare privately tweeted him back calling him a fag. The guy then screenshot Amare's tweet and retweeted it. Then it went all over twitter and someone from the NBA is going to see that. Then after the apology the guy screenshot that and retweeted it.

Amare should know better but this guy was definitely trolling for trouble. Much like many posters on here now a days.

i don't get it.. he called a customer a fag, and was fined. If i sent a text-message to a customer, calling them a fag, i'd be fired.
