i think the biggest short-term impact will be an increase in the likelihood Obama sees a second term

I disagree. Most Americans are against this.
you're right-if anything, it fires up the opposition to get out and vote, like they did in 2010..Could end up being a benefit if it eventually gets repealed in Jan..

I guess it could work both ways - I see it reaffirming people's belief in him, and those who voted for him once, but were wavering, might be more likely to vote for him again with a win like this.

But I do see your point, hat it could be used as a point to rally for those on the other side.

imagine that you could call your insurance company and get house insurance after you discover your house is on fire.

imagine you could wait until after 1/2 to bet on the game.

imagine paying a $700 a year penalty for not having insurance instead of paying $10,000 a year for insurance. No worries if you get sick, you can get insurance after the fact.

as someone who is self employed i'd be foolish to have insurance until i need it. $700 per year is all it takes. I'll pay that, and then any doctor visits out of pocket... if my doctor tells me I have a serious illness I'll just run on down and get me some "insurance"

Grandkids are gonna love paying for all of this.

this reminds me of the scott walker, barrett election, with obama being walker.

i agree that americans dont want to go through all this again, and want to move on.

i also dont think romney will repeal it even though he says he would. he implemented essentially the same thing at the state level in mass.

what? no way... that never happens here

It really doesn't. This board is 99.99999999999% conservatives. The only liberal is viterd and they kill him on the political board. In the eyes of the conservatives here, he becomes the symbol of all things that are wrong with democrats and this country and they gang up on him.

Bullshit.

The last time I did a poll in the poly forum on left vs. right, I had 46 responses
with 12 falling left of center, and 25 to the right. The rest were dead
center or didn't feel their views mapped to the scale.

And... I'd say that, that's just the demographic of those that hang in the Political Forum, Id guess that the main forum has way higher
% of lefties.

I can't wait until everyone who loves this law finds out how much their free health care really winds up costing them. My wife is a surgeon, 80% of my friends are doctors. When this law fully kicks in, if you aren't "in" the medical community, you are going to be SOL. Your wait times for your doc are going to grow from days to weeks and maybe months and you won't be seeing your doc anymore, you'll be seeing their assistant. That's if your doc hasn't dropped you and the only other doc who will see you just graduated from the bottom of their class from a med school in Uganda.

Once this law fully kicks in, take a look around your doctor's waiting room and see how many dregs of society are now waiting with you waving their OCare card that you helped pay for.

Ultimately, the middle and lower classes' level of health care will decline, rapidly, and the upper class will continue to easily pay for the best (life saving) treatment available. You can take that to the bank.

oh yeah, and your prescription drug costs are going to go through the roof, too. Big Pharma wrote most of this health care fiasco and they made sure they blocked importation of drugs that compete against them, especially the inexpensive alternatives from Canada. That's how much Big Pharma gives a crap about Americans, absolute crooks.

I'm in the market for a good boutique doctor to take care of me and my family. If i get diagnosed with anything serious or need a procedure done at a hospital I'll just run out and buy some quick insurance to cover it or go to costa rica or india to have it done if i don't want to wait 3 months to have it done in the US.
