the inaugural Crif Dog Classic on July 4th at Roberta’s in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Renowned New York chef Sam Mason will serve as an honorary judge for the Classic’s hot dog eating contest, which will feature the world’s greatest eater, Takeru Kobayashi, along with other top gurgitators including West Coast Hot Dog Eating Champion Tom Gilbert.

Eating that many dogs is actually a skill. Most people would choke themselves attempting the speed of those guys.

from another forum:

2) chicago brewing company 3 lb burger. if you finish in record time they name it after you. for a while some guy had a 1 hour and 48 minute record for it. then thomas gilbert (a very good and renowned picnic style cheeseburger eater) finished it in 11 and a half minutes.

contest ananysis from another website:

Another big event this year is the independent contest in Brooklyn. Takeru Kobayashi will take on a good field of independent (non MLE eaters) for a 15k first place prize and 5k second prize in a 1st annual event. A las vegas eater will be there and in my opinion is a heavy favorite to eat 32+ hot dogs and buns. I took him to the airport and luckily I didn't break down until I was on my way back home. I spend a good part of Monday watching and betting baseball with him. A good friend of mine whom shares and interest in eating and betting should take 2nd place and catch 5k. He is aiming for first but I think holding off 3 of the other competitors to take 2nd will be a hell of a feat in itself. Kobayashi/Gilbert/Torres/Excel is my prediction for the top 4 at the Criffs Classic on the 4th of July. Other notables are Brad the Lunatic Shuillo and Dave US Male Goldstein. I believe I am more familiar with capping this contest than the Nathans because of familiarity with the west coast eaters.
