I have to tell you. I have been watching baseball since I was 5.
I have never seen 2 players come up at almost the same time be so good.

The thing I like most is there attitude.
These guys are gamers.

They play the game correctly.
They are both unbelievable baserunners.

If I have to give an edge, and it would be a very slight edge it would go to Trout.
I think Harper is going to hit for a little more power but Trout plays better D and runs better.

I will take either one on my team and not complain a bit.

Like you said, both are something special. I went with Harper just because he's a little newer, and has really looked great.

Obviously you weren't born when Mantle and Mays came up together!

I already stated in another thread that I thought that Trout was the next Mantle.

Bryce Harper bro! I don't know about baseball but Harper should provide better soundbites.

7/21/12:

Trout drove in the Angels' first run in the third inning, and he matched Jim Edmonds' franchise record from 1995 when he scored on Hunter's fifth-inning single. Trout is the first AL rookie to score in 13 straight games since Don Lenhardt in 1950 - and he got in scoring position by stealing his 22nd consecutive stolen base.

Right now it is easy to say Trout because of his numbers. That being said, it would be interesting to revisit this thread in 2014.

I think we might see Trout win a Triple Crown just like Mantle did. The only problem might be his lack of homers.

Tori Hunter said Trout is the next Rickey Henderson.

High praise. Trout could be better.

Trout has the better swing.
Harper's swing is a little too choppy.

Love Harper, but what Trout has done is unbelievable. Harper has more power, but for Trout to be so high in runs/sb while missing so much of the season, and hitting over 350 is just crazy

Seeing Harper everyday here in DC, I lean his way. However, the numbers Trout has put up are amazing. I think it's too early to tell, honestly. But if you're going to go off of half-a-season's stats, it obvious that it's Trout. I'm a lifelong Phillies fan, so I'm disappointed in their fall from grace...but, the Nationals are my #2 team and they are going to be a lot of fun to watch over the next 5+ years. I can't wait to go to a MLB playoff game (something I've never done)...

Did you see him just turn that double into a triple?

Trout is batting damn near 80 points higher. Trout will have just as much power in the future. Trout is also a leadoff hitter and thats more value right there.

I would take Trout 5 times more than Harper

7/23/12:
Angels rookie Mike Trout extended his franchise-record streak to 15 consecutive games with a run scored, three shy of the AL mark set by Red Rolfe of the Yankees in 1939 and equaled by Kenny Lofton of the Indians in 2000. The 20-year-old phenom is the first player to score a run in 15 consecutive games since Matt Holliday did it with Colorado in 2008.

Harper goes 2-4 w his 9th homer and another big hit/RBI in the 9th to lead the Nats to victory. The Nats are now 17 games over .500....

Mike Trout hits for the cycle, becomes youngest player in AL history to do so

After Mike Trout's monster rookie season in 2012, many believed it wasn't a matter of if, but when he would achieve some of baseball's most distinguished feats. Like, for instance, hitting for the cycle.
Trout can check that off his to-do list after Tuesday night's Los Angeles Angels game. All told, he was 4-for-5 with two runs, five RBIs and a stolen base. His at-bats went like this: strikeout in the first inning, single in the third, triple in the fourth, double in the sixth and in the eighth inning — with everyone watching to see if he could do it — a home run to complete the cycle.
A few notes of historical context:
(USA Today)• Trout is the youngest player in American League history — at 21 years, 9 months, 16 days — to hit for the cycle. Mel Ott, who achieved the cycle in 1929 at age 20 — is the youngest overall.
• Other younger-than-22 cycle-hitters: Cesar Cedeno (1972), Arky Vaughan (1933) and Alex Rodriguez (1997).
• Trout is the first hitter this season to hit for the cycle.
• He's the sixth Angel overall to do it, and first since Chone Figgins in 2006.
The Angels didn't really need Trout to go nuts at the plate. They routed the Seattle Mariners 12-0. Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Albert Pujols singled in a run.
But for the Angels, who have performed far below expectations thus far, Trout's cycle is a good opportunity to get excited. The team has won three straight game and are now are a game a half behind the Mariners for third place in AL West.

Baseball is back. Don't miss anything
