I'll echo C.P.'s statements. I have avast, avg, and several malware programs. I'd say over the last two years, malware attacks are much more prevalent than anything else. I think the two malware programs I have are malwarebytes and superantimalware (or maybe superantispyware).

Having a couple programs in place is not a bad idea assuming they're not huge files taking up space.

i use an antivirus program called "Vipre" ... it seems to use the least amount of computer resources while running in the background. other antivirus programs i've tried slowed down my mahcine dramatically.

I'd like to add, make sure you completely remove any previous anti virus software on your pc after installing Avast. Had Norton and after adding Avast, my Google Chrome browser would not load. Would take 5-10 minutes to load a web page. Very frustrating finding the orgin of the problem. Took it to a local shop that couldn't solve the problem. Ended up speaking with the people at Avast, [Indian Company] I paid them a fee to completely tune my pc, actually took them about 8 hours of work and only after sending the problem to a higher level of tech support did they find the problem. Machine runs like a dream today and has for a couple months now.

I use malwarebytes and never had a problem and it's good at blocking any potential viruses and malware.

I haven't had an antivirus program installed in 6 years and haven't gotten a single virus. Just don't click on suspicious links, install AdBlock Plus on your browser, and scan once a month with AntiMalwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. Works fine for me and all those are free.

thats a long time....guess i watch too much internet tv and u have to click on links to get to the feeds

I have never installed an anti virus and I never will, 3 computers in the last 12 years or so, never a problem, it's a scam to scare people. Try it people, delete that shit, nothing will happen, it's b as in b, s as in s!

That being said, dont go clicking on every suspicious porn site.

I'm no IT guru... but installing multiple anti-virus programs is a quick way to slow your PC down.

Kapersky... by the way.. is the organization that uncovered that international "flame" virus. The virus has been infecting computers in Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. It has been grabbing images of users’ computer screens, recording their instant messaging chats, remotely turning on their microphones to record their audio conversations and monitoring their keystrokes and network traffic.

Kapersky is the way to go for true security. If you go with a free program... just pick one. No need to have two of those suckers loading and scanning your pc everytime you start it up

Use Microsoft Essentials. It is FREE and most of the Warez community uses it. I have used it for three years and have not gotten one Trojan or Virus

yea, with the ease of access to free antivirus software via torrents or even the avg one, there is no reason not to have one. Even if you think you'll never get infected, it always helps to have that extra security blanket.

I do business banking online. My bank recommended a program called PrevX. It found some trojans and misc crap that McAfee had missed.

Agree. I've used AVG and Kapersky and Microsoft Security Essentials is the best of the bunch. And the best part is that it is free, and there is no upgrade to a paid service so you don't get a stripped down version.

It's not a scam. There are very real threats out there. You have been very lucky. Just a few days ago I went to a site that I frequent often and Microsoft Security Essentials blocked me from even loading the page. I went to that site's Facebook page and found out that they had been hacked and malware was installed on their site and that they were working to resolve the issue.

You are playing with fire, and I tell you if you get infected you will be very sorry.

I'm not buying it, i've had a computer for 12+ years, never a problem, never a compromise. I'm telling you they set up those anti - virus programs to find shit just so the suckers keep buying it. I have friends that started deleting their programs after I told them what I did, and they dont have anymore computer problems either.
