Jeremy Mayfield began racing in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky, racing go-karts at local Short tracks; moving to Nashville Speedway at the age of 19. He soon went to work for Sadler Bros. Racing as a fabricator, and became their driver, winning the Late Model Rookie of the Year at Kentucky Motor Speedway in 1987.

Mayfield bounced around NASCAR driving for several teams including Sadler Brothers, T.W. Taylor, Cale Yarborough, Michael Kranefuss, Penske Racing South, Evernham Motorsports and Bill Davis racing.

On May 9, 2009, Mayfield was suspended from NASCAR following a positive test for methamphetamine. He then failed a second test on July 6, 2009. NASCAR made it clear he was through with their organization both as a driver or owner. Mayfield then sued NASCAR for reinstatement and lost.

Mayfield was arrested on November 1, 2011 for operating a burglary ring to support his meth habit. He and others were staging burglaries of farm and racing equipment, even from people they knew. He is also on the verge of losing his 388 acre farm because he owed nearly $100,000 in back taxes.

Sad story but he choose to be a dumbass and has no one to blame but himself.

I started to post this as well. I would say poor ole Mayfield, but he did this all to himself. To Hell with a thief and a meth head. Everything he has is/was on my dream goals in life. A Farm, a racing career at the highest level, anything he wanted basically, and he threw it all away for some bull pooh. Man I would give my left nut for that opportunity.

Well stated Matty.

Many and I mean many would have loved to have had Mayfield's opportunity.

I still remember Mayfield bumping Earnhardt Sr. out of the way on the last lap
to win at Poncono years ago.
