95.9% of all the people complaing about Joe Pa ......would have done that EXACT same thing.......hoped that it was a lie.....or hope that it would just go away. Nobody is going to be this righteous saint and basically throw their legacy, their institution, and for all intents and purposes.....themselves......under the bus.......it was just easier to just hope that it was wrong and went away. Turning your head when child abuse is present bags you the same time as the one proven guilty. Any knowledge of the crime whatsoever wins you a matched sentence facing the scum in cuffs. Period.
If you know any human who has man-handled a child, and he or she subsequently gets 3 years in prison for physical abuse after the truth comes out down the road, you join them for 3 years. Period.
If you had any knowledge whatsoever of this Sandusky character, and he gets 400 years, you get 400 years. If he gets off light and is given 100 years, you join him for a century. Period.

You may be partially right.
But there is a way he could have done both.
He could have preserved PSU had he simply fired Sandusky on the spot and banned him from getting withen 1 mile of the campus.
He could have easily forced Sandusky to resign.

If Joe would have done that it would have been a compromise between what he did and what he should have done.
What I said above is still not what he ultimately should have done, but it is a lot better then what he did.
At least if he would have done what I said above you could make a strong case that he did not enable him to do anymore of his sick acts under his watch.
Paterno knew Sandusky for years and years. He was his pal. All these coaches work and live closely together. Paterno knew this guy was fucked up way before '98 I'm sure and didn't have the moral fortitude to do anything about it. He was almost as guilty, along with all the other coaches, (current one included) and others that knew. By not doing anything about it just allowed Sandusky to continue the horror. A horror which YOU obviously don't comprehend with your pea- sized neanderthal brain.

Christ, the University itself investigated and punished Paterno not the media. Most media--especially non-TV--are better people than accountants--all who lie and distort corporate tax returns, basically stealing from the government and laying the burden on the middle class. It's about time we clean up THAT profession.

When this Sandusky stuff first came out and kept going, i never for once thought the program would or should have any kind of punishment or sanctions and then you started hearing about the death penalty. Why? This is 100% a criminal case. Personally, i think Paterno was too damn old to be coaching and prob was not as involved in running the program as others were. He seemed like more of the defacto President but others were running it. Never appeared that sharp in his last decade. Like he was Kim il sung and others were Kim jong il when Kim il sung was still alive. Interesting that Paterno died so quickly after being fired
