I'm not sure I'd call it a mistake though... An unfortunate choice, perhaps? But for Portland, at the time, it made perfect sense.

Will agree probably the Top one.... goes along with the KC pick of Todd Blackledge
they by passed John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Eric Dickerson just to name a few.

You make a good point. Looking at Paxson and Drexler at the guard position, Portland didn't really need him.

Exactly, and - of course what's even worse, if Portland had won the coin-flip for the 1st spot, they would have gotten Olajuwon... Just bad luck all around.
