Lost his job a couple months ago...Not due to performance issues but money issues...He had 5 kids and some grandchildren and was from an area far away from here...Came here to try and make a go of it and his wife stayed behind in Vegas, but 3 younger children had came to live with him in March and he had hoped others would join him including wife soon...

Then he lost job,so about a month ago he packed the 3 kids in car and drove them to Vegas and dropped them off at wife's and went to a home for sale and broke in and committed suicide...Realtor was on final walk thru for sale when they found him in garage 4 days later...

My question is should i stop by place that he had worked for the last year and let them know that he is now dead? It is not the type of place where he would have had insurance etc... just a job...If i were a co-worker i would want to know but don't know how management would react to it...

go with your first reaction, whatever it was.

not knowing the employer/company I would notify management and feel like I did my part. If they want to disclose the very unfortunate news, they can. If they make an executive decision that it would effect morale or however they would justify it then thats up to them.

I'm sorry for your loss

first instinct was to stop by and tell them...Due to be in the area tomorrow,so will probably stop and let them know...These are people that would probably have no idea and i know for a fact that the few that work there would like to know...And even if upper management from far away also know about it,they probably did not let the others left behind know...

Sad to hear that man. Stop by and tell them. He may have had some old friends there

This is a tough one. Nobody likes it when people share bad news like this unsolicited. I can see if you have some business to handle at his former place of employment to tend then it would be okay to spread the news. But just to drop by and ruin everybody's day with the sad news might be in bad judgement.

I wouldn't get involved with that not being immediate family. Sorry about the bad news.

This...unfortunately have been through a suicide of a family friend this year and it is extremely hard on the family. They should be the ones to tell who/when they decide...Sorry for your loss

This is easy....especially if you know he would want a few from there to know.

You should tell everyone at the old workplace that he died.

You only tell management that it was because of suicide. Let them decide if they want to share that with the rank and file.

If the others ask you then say you think the family wants to keep it private.

Why would you care what management thinks at a place you dont work?

unfortunately this is becoming more common place in America, suicide that is. Losing a job and trying to feed a family can be traumatic. If one doesn't have a strong support system, the mind can become an enemy.

not going to do it today...gonna think about it some more..but i still think his coworkers would want to know he is dead...doesn't mean i have to bring up suicide...as far as family telling them,i don't even think wife knew where he worked.just simply that he was a maintenance man at an apartment complex...

Sorry for your loss , i had a sister that commited suicide and it's really tough on family and friends.

As for telling his old work place , i dunno. Unless it's a really large apartment complex they likely didnt have more than a couple of maintaince men , chances are he likely had more tennants that he had become friends with than co-workers.

I've lived in a couple of different appatrments , and the maintaince men didnt hang around the office workers , so it may be better to just drive around the complex and see if you can spot a maintaince man and tell him , but i would'nt bother telling the office workers.

Why don't you wait until some of his co workers go to lunch and tell them then? Might be the easiest way.

I would just let them know that he's passed on to a better place. It's none of the workers/managements business as far as how he died. Sorry for your loss Buster
