Almost half of middle-class workers, 49 percent, will be poor or near poor in retirement, living on a food budget of about $5 a day.

Retirement age...what a joke.

I would be shocked if 50% of Americans could retire at 65 or whatever and still live a decent life. The facts are older people are hanging around longer and longer the job - this takes away the opportunity to move up the ladder and also contributes to the dwindling jobs market. You can't blame them though..they do have to eat and pay for shit just like the rest of us. Point is, if half of us are working till we are dead there will be very, very few decent paying jobs sooner rather than later.

Those #s are actually pretty misleading for a # of reasons. Not saying everyone can retire at age 62-65 but obviously a lot of people can and do.

If one worked for the gov. and has not 1 penny saved they are as good off as I would be with 500k - with their benefit package.
