just a practical economical 2007, 08, or 09 car. private party valued between 4,000 to 8,000 i guess. i had a 1992 geo metro about 5 years ago and it worked just fine for a backup car with good gas mileage to use when needed. im thinking just a bit of an upgrade since it may be passed on to growing kid. chevy echo, ford focus, honda fit, kia rio, toyota yaris, nissan versa, accent, civiv, hell i dont know! gimme some advice or input guys! thanks in advance!

Used car prices are very high right now - a 2000 Camry will go for $6K and 1998 Altima for $4500

I'm impressed when the seller has receipts to show for stuff like oil changes/ brakes/ and other maintenance.

I have not drove very many small cars, but I was in Utah a few months back and needed a rental and the only thing i could get at a decent rate was a Versa. Very fun car to drive and more room for the driver than many mid size and even a lot of full size sedans.

Having bought one not so long ago the one thing I noticed were the old guys who had looked after their car seemed to put them on line for sale but not Craigslist, places like Autotrader. You might pay a bit more on Autotrader but they seemed to be better cars, to me at least.
