Help Transporting a Motorcycle.....

My wife's parent just seperated, he went to FL to be with his other daughter, mother in law staying in VA....

He badly wants his bike (has a gas guzzler car, plus bikes is his only hobby.)

Any ideas on how to transfer the bike cheaply?

drive in down, meet him at airport, and fly back.

I shipped a car engine from ohio to texas a few years ago on a semi that hauled misc frieght, it cost about 450 bucks.

call a local cycle shop and ask them how they ship bikes when they sell them.

for one bike, have the guy get back to Va by plane, bus etc. and ride it the 6-700 miles ( ?) back....or get a trusted friend to ride it down there, then bus him back ?

find someone hitch hiking down to florida. they will ride it for free

$450 is a tad high. From Va to Fla should be in the $300-350 range. $400 should be had easily. But, you're gonna have to/ want to most likely crate it and all to ship it. Def is easier to ride it down. Well maybe on everything but the butt.

well what is the bike ?

Is it some touring big cruiser like a 1000cc Goldwing with a fairing , or some dirtbike ?, or something small like a 350cc streetbike that you don't really want to ride hundreds of miles on it going 95 south ?

fly/ bus one way, if it can be driven on the interstate.

You cant really compare the price of shipping a bike to that of shipping an engine.

Bikes are easy to load and unload , an engine is much more difficult to load and unload.
