I remember flying down to Paradise Island in the Bahama's with some of my neighbors back in the early 70's. Northeast airlines had a big promotion going on then, and all you heard on the commercials were, "Northeast Yellow birds"! A "yellow bird" was also a drink they served on the plane and in all the bars on Paradise Island. We stayed at the Paradise Island Hotel and Villas. Across the way from our hotel was another hotel where Howard Hughes was staying at the time after his escape from Vegas. Can't remember the name of the hotel, but both hotels shared a common casino.
One day we rented a boat and I learned how to water ski. We drove around the island until we were anchored in front of our hotel. I decided to dive in and see our wives that were on the beach. Just as I was in midair, I heard my friend shout something out, but couldn't hear what he said. When I surfaced, I could hear him keep yelling, "shark...shark!" It seems there was a shark about 50 feet behind the boat and it started heading towards me when it heard the splash in the water when I dove in. I've always been a good swimmer, but I must have set a record for reaching that beach. Later on, we found out from some native that it could have been a reef shark which is pretty harmless...so he said. Sure scared the heck out of me!
