It can be adventure, leisure, culture, whatever....

Just figure with all the crap going on lately (chick-fil-a, obama BS, romney BS, that fool shooting up the dark knight premiere) haven't seen too many positive threads around here......

favorite vacation memory ever was going to the beach for the 1st time when I was a young teen....

otherwise, gotta say the 2 cruises I've been on have been the best.... but that could be because I still haven't made it to Vegas

Vietnam and Cambodia in April 2011 is by far my best vacation ever. It was incredible and completely changed how I view many things. I love Hawaii, and have been there many times, but when I went to Maui in fall 2011 it seemed almost boring after what I experienced in SE Asia

Next spring I am already booked for Bali and Singapore for 16 days next spring. Thailand is very high on my list and will also see Laos at some point.

I remember flying down to Paradise Island in the Bahama's with some of my neighbors back in the early 70's. Northeast airlines had a big promotion going on then, and all you heard on the commercials were, "Northeast Yellow birds"! A "yellow bird" was also a drink they served on the plane and in all the bars on Paradise Island. We stayed at the Paradise Island Hotel and Villas. Across the way from our hotel was another hotel where Howard Hughes was staying at the time after his escape from Vegas. Can't remember the name of the hotel, but both hotels shared a common casino.

One day we rented a boat and I learned how to water ski. We drove around the island until we were anchored in front of our hotel. I decided to dive in and see our wives that were on the beach. Just as I was in midair, I heard my friend shout something out, but couldn't hear what he said. When I surfaced, I could hear him keep yelling, "shark...shark!" It seems there was a shark about 50 feet behind the boat and it started heading towards me when it heard the splash in the water when I dove in. I've always been a good swimmer, but I must have set a record for reaching that beach. Later on, we found out from some native that it could have been a reef shark which is pretty harmless...so he said. Sure scared the heck out of me!

Why do people keep saying the SE Asia trips changed their lives? Seems to be a familiar theme.

I've been to Costa Rica several times (buddy I grew up w/ is from there). Hawaii several times (two of the last three Christmas'). Boston (to run the Boston Marathon). Lake Tahoe (a dozen or so times). The Florida Keys (20+ times). Disney (50+ times, seriously). France (a dozen times, my grandmother lives there). Europe (at least 10 times). Dubai. NYC. Chicago. Countless ski trips (Wash state, Utah, Colorado, NC).

For the money...the time it takes to travel....value for your money....things to do (I like an active vacation)....I'd go w/ Costa Rica. My CR buddy got married there in 2004. About 100 of us from the states went, along w/ 50 or so of his family that lived there. It was a blast!

Some of my Keys trips back in the day (for lobster season) were awesome as well!

When I was a kid...Disney World

I was 8 years old. Limo picked us up at the house (I had never seen one before) and took us to the airport. We flew first class (first time on a plane) and stayed in the at the Contemporary for a week. At the time, the Contemporary was brand new and considered top of the line for Disney. Tons of fun...hope to do the exact same thing for my little one when he was old enough.

When I was a teenager...sail-boating the BVI

Parent's chartered a private sailboat (pretty big...we stayed on the boat the whole time) complete with a captain and crew. We basically went wherever we wanted for about two weeks. Went diving every other day on some kind of reef or shipwreck. Was amazing to see that much diversity in animal life as I was used to diving in lakes and along the coast. Pretty wild trip.

When I was an adult...honeymoon to Vegas

Enough said.

Man you gotta change that asap... even I went to Vegas, 1st time when I was 7yo (and I'm from CR). Anyway my best vacation was last year to Mexico and it was crazy. Sex, drugs and rocknroll plus the best food ever for the cheapest prices!
