Ichiro Suzuki Ties Don Slaught for Longest Hitting Streak to Begin New York Yankees Career

With a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning of New York's 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners, Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to 12 games, tying Don Slaught for the longest hitting streak to start a career in pinstripes.

Though Ichiro has reached base safely in all 12 games of his Yankees career, he's batting just .261 since being traded to New York.
This hitting streak is nothing new for the 38 year-old outfielder, as he has had seven hitting streaks of at least 20 games in his career and this 12 game streak is far from his career-high hitting streak of 27 games.
He also set Major League Baseball's all-time record for most consecutive seasons with 200 or more hits with 10 straight seasons spanning from his rookie season in 2001 until 2010, as well as the all-time record for most hits in a season with 262 hits in 2004.

He's a great addition at such a small cost.

Ichiro has to be their best defensive outfielder ( with Gardner absent) and probably their best baserunner. too !

They don't need HR power from everybody, Ichiro will get on base against playoff caliber pitchers, when the HR bats fail in the post -season. He got one of only two hits the other day against Felix H.

I'd sign him next year at 5M or so.

He might be gone from NY, but he will play somewhere if he still wants to. He's still a great defensive player and runner. He could easily get up to .280 or higher ( as a Yankee). He's not like a Jonny Damond in the OF, he really should be in CF at this time.
