Seems like just a matter of time before ESPN with their 8 channels will want to get in on this. After tht happens ESPN would almost be unwatchable the way they run things to death.

I hope they don't but it does seem like a natural fit. But I would think NBC has more money but not sure on that on

Don't see it happening, NBC's got plenty of channels themselves, plus an all new 24 hour sports channel. I see NBC looking to expand their brand, maybe outbidding ESPN for thursday night football.

NBC have just paid $4.4 Billion to secure it until 2020 at least.

Wanna know what $4.4B gets the ordinary man on the street?

Michael Phelps breaking the medals record on a 12 hour tape delay.

NBC uses the Oylmpics to sell non sports programing.

ESPN for the most part only has Sports programing, so it's difficult to be able to justify paying for the rights to the Olympics.

If espn Had the rights that would mean Disney the parent company of abc would also have the rights. In other words ABC would be the flagship network airing the games which they would use espn to also carry additional portions of the games not shown on abc.
Kinda like what NBC is doing with bravo and nbcsports.

I don't know why everyone is in such a tizzy.
The Olympics has been broadcast this why for decades regardless of network unless the games happen to be in a nearby time zone.sad but true the prime most popular events will get better ratings tape delayed in prime time then they would live at some odd hourThis is not an NBC ,CBS , or fox issue. This is a time zone issue. Every single network on earth would do it the same way

I don't know why everyone is in such a tizzy.

Quite simply, because they can do better, and that's worse than not being good enough.

When I said 12 hour tape delay (west coast) I wasn't joking, it really was. Also, why such a convoluted way of allowing viewers to know what is on what channel and when?

Why they couldn't just say: 'Swimming will be on NBC Sports Network live and re-aired on NBC in prime time' is beyong me, it's not even logical. I totally get the need to recoup as much as possible through advertising, but how many viewers did they lose because everyone knew the result?

I have 101 reasons why their coverage has me in a tizzy actually....

NBC and CBS broadcast European-based sporting events such as Wimbledon and the French Open in real-time as well as a tape delay I believe.

And they do it darned well, which makes their Olympic coverage all the more frustrating.

thought NFL Network had Thursday night football?

NFL network has it now, but I've heard they will be taking bids next year, and NBCSportsnet and Espn are the favorites.
