We have had a rash of problems here in NY with them being pointed at Airplanes.
and Pilots getting blinded by them. Now in a ballgame last night...

ST. LOUIS — A 17-year-old faces criminal charges for allegedly pointing a green laser at San Francisco pitcher Shane Loux during the seventh inning of Monday night's Cardinals-Giants game at Busch Stadium.

And the fan was caught by none other than Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.

The incident occurred with Matt Holliday batting for the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh inning. He jumped out of the batter's box when he noticed the green laser on the back of Loux.

Holliday and umpire Marvin Hudson turned to the stands but couldn't locate the culprit. Play continued until after the inning when Hudson approached Matheny, who also saw the green laser pointed toward the mound.

Used to have a red one in middle school (1990s). Used to drive the teachers crazy and mess with buddies talking to girls. They even came out with adapters that would shine as things (woman, stars, etc).

Funny you should post this.

I was over at a buddy's house the other day and he had one, said it cost almost $200 (I'm thinking WTF $200 for a laser pointer). Middle of the day and you could see the laser about 1/2 mile away.

These things are getting powerful.

Why would one spend $200 on a laser pointer???

I use them to bore sight guns.

They make a lazer that fits into the gun like a shell or bullet would. The lazer shines down the barrel and show you where the bullet will hit. You than adjust your sights from that.

very quick and simple

I never thought of that. Why not just buy a laser sight?

because with a lazer sight you still have to SHOOT the gun to sight it in.

With a lazer bore sight, you don't have to even shoot the gun to sight it in, nor do you have to worry about being in a safe area.

the cat is old now and grew tired of it. It is a blast with a kitten , esp. on a hardwood floor. You can get them running in backward circles and climbing the walls like a jai alai player. They slide like crazy on a wood floor.

the green lasers have a huge market and are a big deal. u gotta be careful which ones u buy which will or wont have true power.
With most greenies in the mid range price u can see the beam like in star wars stuff (green is most visible light by human eye) and u can also cut things like a laser sword and u can also burn things from a small distance away. the darker the object the easier burnt/cut.. so like a black plastic bag or black tape, gets seared with fire and smoke quick with these weapons :D

U can see the real deal true ones for up to 45-50 miles.. Yes that is a real number.

but they go from 150-1500$+ for the real strong ones.

u can get a cheap imitation (but still workable one) on ebay for 25$ or so though. (but be careful because the cheap imitation ones can burn your eyes easy because they dont have a tight beam.. its more spread out even if its not visible in the beam itself)

trust me these green lasers can burn ur retina in 3-5 secs and it will be ruined for life. burnt and dead cells

but I suggest buying from wickedlasers http://www.wickedlasers.com/index.php

they are the bar setters of the industry and their lasers are known to be true or higher output than advertised.

Your guess is as good as mine.

He says it's for astronomy.

I did a search because I was interested why someone would need a laser pointer that was brighter than one of the red ones. It turns out hikers and campers like these because they can be seen from such a long distance if they get lost.

But another reason is because a lot of wild animals are put off by these devices. It seems as though it messes with their eyesight.

Another reason is for astronomy as you say. Since you can see the beam it's easy to point out constellations and stars with one.

Watching USA defeat Mexico tonight, I'm almost certain I saw a light green blurry dot on goalkeeper Tim Howard on several occasions. No kidding.
