It kinda bothers me when I see the President talking about everyone paying their fair share of taxes.
Where I am from a fair share can mean different things. You can split a restaurant bill by having everyone pay for what they ordered, or you can just divide the total by the number of people in the party.
I'd be embarrassed to sit at a table where the people divided up the bill based on income. "Dr. Jones makes more than all of us so he should pay his fair share"
anyway...
this year the government is spending about $12,000 per US Citizen.
Obama wants everyone to pay their fair share.
which means that your fair share of taxes should be $12,000.
Your spouse's fair share would be another $12,000 and if you have 2 children they each need to kick up $12,000. In other words a family of 4 should pay $48,000 a year in federal taxes.
the median household size is 2.7 people.
the median income in the US per household $45,000
for you math wizards out there, the median household - after paying their fair share of federal taxes should have $12,600 per year to live on (or to pay STATE taxes)
it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the majority of Americans cannot afford to pay their fair share of taxes.
it does take a majority of the votes to get elected.
misleading the middle class into thinking they are paying their fair share of taxes is immoral.
telling the majority that it's ok to make the minority pay a little more in taxes is immoral.
someone should make a campaign ad letting Americans know the truth about what their fair share of taxes should be.
most Americans would be embarrassed to discover they are not even close to paying their fair share of taxes.
look at line 61 of your 2011 tax form 1040 to see if you are paying your family's fair share of taxes.
if you are not paying your fair share:
Tell your elected officials that it is not fair that the government spends so much money that you cannot afford to pay your fair share so other people have to pay it for you.
