USA women's soccer team drawing heat over post-win wardrobe

The US women's soccer team have been criticized before for not being good sports. New Zealand's coach had a few choice words for their choreographed victory dances.

Now they are being called out for the shirts they chose to wear on the field after taking the gold from Japan in a close 2-1 bout,
The ladies had some Nike T-shirts (pictured above) that read "Greatness has been found" that were made for them in case they won. After the final second ticked away, they donned the shirts and ran across the field carrying American flags.

Sports writer Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times wrote on his Twitter account:

Jerrard Peters, a soccer reporter for TheScore.com, Tweeted on his account:

Who's to say what's wrong or right in this situation? The Japanese women's soccer team handled their loss with an admirable amount of dignity and both teams seem to have a great deal of respect for each other and that's not to say they would or wouldn't have done the same if they beat the US. Besides, it's not like Team USA pulled a Randy Moss by mooning the opposing team's fans or did anything that Terrell Owens has ever done as an athlete.

After all, it's just a game. Let the ladies enjoy their victory. They've earned it.

It's the Olympics.... Shouldn't there be less pompousness about winning? Shouldn't there be subtle but VICTORIOUS humility in the celebration??
Next thing you know everybody is gonna have a In Case We Win shirt made out... come on now.

They didn't do anything different than any other country would have done. It looked like a typical celebration after a championship soccer game.

The shirts were not necessary but other than that these other countries need to quit the whining.

I guess that must be the mission statement for Uconn men's hoops. You can't graduate, you can't dance in march.

IT'S AMAZING... People can and will be feeble minded....

A guy comes on here and brags about his carelessness to other people/countries NOT liking AMERICANS... One of the reasons why the US is/will be in decline.... That mentality will get US nowhere....

The reason it's retarded is because, outside of the big tourneys these women couldn't attract 1000 people to a game.

It's womens soccer, and whilst not trying to denigrate womens soccer simply because it's womens soccer, it's clearly a case of delusion, made all the worse by the fact they let people like Nike pay to be involved in their own glory, like some sort of showroom dummy.

Now is Usain Bolt wants to wear 'Greatness Has Been Found'......

Get in line! Our country does more for the entire world than any other country on this planet. If they don't like us? Fuck 'em!

to show the difference in mentality between the US and Europe I was watching an interview with a reporter in the UK. She was trying to explain how people in the UK and Europe look at the US Presidential race.

She said it confused most of them because so many Americans were against the government doing things for them, where in Europe the people expect the government to do more and take care of them.

she said, "why have a government unless it takes care of you, that's its purpose"

so that being said, does it surprise you that they can't understand that there is nothing wrong with winning and showing it.

To us winning is a celebration of accomplishment.

To them winning is a sign that someone must have lost.

Congrats to the women. So what they celebrated post-game. Bolt celebrates beating his chest, pointing BEFORE he even crosses the finish line. I've never heard any complaints about him.

Just because you don't follow the US Women's team, doesn't mean that others don't. The USWNT often plays friendlies in front of 15,000+.
