Hello,

I have seen a number of losing wieght, getting in better shape threads...how bout this one? I come in around 205 and have a max bench of 315lbs. (six 45's on an olympis bar.) I have lifted my entire life and other than beer have lived a some what healthy lifestyle. I'm wondering what you cats have for similiar strenght levels. I turn 40 in November.

I weigh about 175. The max I ever put up was 185 once and that was 2 years ago when i worked out with a collegiate wrestler who actually gave me a real workout plan. Now my only workout is basketball, probably could still put up 155, maybe a little more. Just a skinny guy and tough to bulk up with my current diet as well

Bench pressing your body weight or 2x it means nothing. Though I congratulate you on being in shape.

when i use to strength train I could...6'4 210 dont think i went past 335. I mostly train explosive/more reps rather than heavy/few since a couple shoulder n wrist injuries...cant remember the last time i tried to max out

My max is around is around 315 and I weigh 190... I used to care very much about that number. But at 32 years old I realize how meaningless it actually is.

Now more concentrated on actual fitness and endurance vs strength in weight room

1.5x your weight is good for BP. 2x is good for Squats. A true test of strength though is putting something over your head such as a Military Press, or a clean and jerk. If you wanna talk power, Power cleans, Clean and jerks, deadlifts, and squats is where it's at. Nothing worse then hearing a guy talk about his BP numbers, or being ask by someone, "Do you workout?", Answer : YES. Reply "How much do you bench?" It seems a lot associate strength and fitness with how much one benches, and that is a very falsified way of judging things. Props to anyone trying to workout and living a healthy lifestyle though.

Not since I got into long distance running. I'm 160-165-ish. I can BP around 210-220. I can BP my body weight probably 12-15 times.

Now can any of you run 26.2 miles at a 6:40/avg mile pace?

When I was your age I was just under 190...my BP was 355. I look at older pics and I didn't carry the weight well. Chubby cheeks, a slight gut. I'll be 42 this month and my overall fitness is much, much better.

great replys, alot of solid guys (health/strength wise) around here. I don't feel that having a bench is a big deal as MattyMatt said...it is a decent indicator(sp) of upper body strength though. I agree with cleans and similiar 'olympic' type movements, just alittle to technical for me at this age.

I plan on running a 50 mile race in Nov, but it will be nowhere even close to a 6:40/ avg mile.

After that me and a couple buddys got plan to run a regular marathon in Febuary.

When I used to max, I got up to 295 and then messed up my rotator cuff. Now, I rarely go past 185 and just do lots of reps. I'm 6'3'' and weigh 200.
