If you are averaging 200K to 500K hits a video, can you make money at it?

If you have the talent and the product to pull that off there are other ways you can make money more easily.
Its great for a gateway to bigger and better things.
If you can prove you are a great reporter for instance and can get a great following this may help you get a real gig at a major network.
But as far as YOUTUBE being the endgame there are much better ways to make money.

There are exceptions.
The girl who sang Friday, Friday is a good example.

Its kind of like sports betting.

If you are are smart enough to make real money year and and year out, that means you have the smarts to make money in other ways with a lot less headache.
I am speaking purely from the betters perspective and not the books perspective.

YouTube is a good tool to give a website more authority as far as search engines go... I don´t think it´s useful for making money directly, but could be wrong.

Hache, do you know what the rate is? I've been looking around, and there has to be some kinda compensation for all the videos with tons of views

No I don't bb, but the reason I know (Because I scoffed at it previously) is there's a local kid here who makes about $1,000 a month for ridiculous stuff.

But some make thousands & thousands...

For example, these kids (schmoyoho) make a killing.....

A lot of the singers who do covers and have thousands of followers do as well.

YouTube pays nothing - ever. Not sure if that´s what you´re asking, but it sort of sounds like it. Everyone who ¨makes money¨ using youTube is just using youTube as advertising.

Oops - I´m wrong... Check out: http://www.youtube.com/yt/creators/partner.html

Looks like you can make money through advertising... Looks like you need a ridiculous number of views though. It uses Adsense ads, which I´ve used on websites before. You´d need to research thoroughly, to find a niche that has high-paying Adsense ads, and then, obviously, get tons of views.

From what I understand Youtbe splits all Ad-Revenue 50-50.

Theres a way to calculate an estimate you make based on the number of views.

Definitely an estimate, as Adsense ads have a VERY wide range as far as how much one gets for a click. Some ads can be as low as a few cents, others over $1.00 I believe.

No way to calculate an estimate on earnings. There are to many factors involved, time of the month, smart pricing, inventory. A long time ago Adsense was a very good way to make money but as it grew the pot had to be split more ways. We ran a site that used to get 1.5 million vistors a month now only about 200.000 a month. Checks used to come by Fed Ex every month. That meant you making over $10,000 a month. Today it's a tough nut to make money through Adsense not unless you are a big brand or big box store. Do a search on Google and you will see what I mean. The search results are manipulated by Google to favor those you buy Adwords and plenty of them.
