It's simply one of the more compelling pieces of footage you'll see from a sports documentary. We wondered in anticipation what Tuesday's "Hard Knocks" episode would bring with Chad Johnson's domestic violence arrest and subsequent release from the Miami Dolphins, and it delivered to viewers in a big way.

"Hard Knocks" had behind-the-scenes footage of Miami head coach Joe Philbin calling Chad Johnson in to his office to talk to the troubled wide receiver.

It's amazing to actually witness one of these conversations take place and just how delicately Philbin lets Johnson down. Never does he tell Johnson "I'm cutting you," or "you're gone," but rather, he tells Johnson that he's a good person and "I don't see the mesh right now." You can see it in Johnson's eyes that his career is on the line as he pleads to stay in the Dolphins program.

Philbin finally gets down to business in the most unassuming way possible and tells Chad Johnson, "I think it's best for both of us that we kinda part ways at this point in time." This is as real as it gets, and it's why "Hard Knocks" continues to be at the top of the sports doc field.

It would be the same, IMO. They had a one strike agreement when they brought him in and when one of the Dolphin reps talked to Chad while he was still locked up, Chad said this arrest could be a death sentence for his career.

Hard Knocks is very compelling TV. It's easy to read about so and so getting cut but to actually see someone lose their job on camera brings out the emotions. Watching that undrafted FA get cut before the first practice in the first episode was sad.

Even though #85 had it coming and deserved it, I found that very uncomfortable to watch that.

the more I read about the woman, the more I think she set it up - and possibly was the headbutt-er. Johnson is still a big dummy, without a doubt - but this bitch is crazy.

At first I wondered why they cut him on just an arrest. It could have been a "he said/she said" type of thing that was an accident and she got out of control. But hearing the coach explain his reaction on the phone about how he tweeted "f this and f that" I can now understand why they wouldn't wait for both sides to come out.

Yeah agree... maybe with his Headbutt to the Wife, he can go join the WWE ? :)

This could easily happen. He will be doing anything to get appearance fees from whatever gigs he can snag up, or at least whoever is in charge of his PR should be attempting it. I could careless to see him on anything, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Don't believe everything you see on TV. Johnson knew the cameras were there. And there was no way he was going to act up and make a scene if there was any chance whatsoever that he was going to get picked up by another team in the future. Johnson is an idiot, but he's smart enough to shut up and be contrite when his NFL future is on the line.

Why would they have a one strike agreement? Guy has never been in trouble his entire NFL career.

I dont get why everyone thinks he is such a bad guy.... he has a big ego yes, but IMO he is grateful, giving, and just overall a good dude..... I don't think he would of acted any different without the camera being there....

hope he lands on his feet... I do think as a talent, he is done.... TO has a better chance at being successful in this league than Ocho because TO is a physically dominating human, as there wasn't really much that separated Chad physically, he was just a very good WR. ....

I like Chad, he makes me laugh.

I hope some team hires him as a cheer leader, I think it could be funny as hell, and get TONS of air time. That way he could pull his crazy stunts after TDs and the NFL couldnt do anything.

How does Chad Johnson not sign with the Jets? Their wr depth is just as bad as miami and he gets the chance to stick it to his former teams 4x this season

Yeah, he's a great guy. His wife asked him for a little head, and she got it.

As I said above, I think this would be a good time to withhold judgement. This guy is not a troublemaker (in the true sense of the word) and his "wife" is an absolute nut. He may be a moron, but i'd wait to call him a woman beater.

I don't believe every thing that I see on TV, and I'm certain that the cameras change the way people act. However, cameras or not, had Johnson reacted badly to being cut every front office in the league would have known about it. If he wanted to salvage even the smallest chance of getting on somewhere else, he had no choice but to take it as he did.
