Adding: Julio Lugo...
Played 2 years...

On December 5, 2006, Lugo signed a four-year, $36 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.[3]
Lugo was brought on to bat leadoff, but was moved by manager Terry Francona to the bottom part of the order primarily due to his inability to consistently get on base. From June 15 to July 3 Lugo went 0–31 from the plate. Since 1996, only one other Major League player with more than 250 at bats 80 games into the season has had a lower batting average: Greg Vaughn, .163 for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002.[4]
As of July 5, 2008, Lugo had committed 16 errors, which not only led all big-league players, but was also nearly one-third of the 50 errors made by the Red Sox as a team. He was hitting .268 with one home run and 22 RBIs. Rookie shortstop Jed Lowrie was called up from the Pawtucket Red Sox to fill in for Lugo while he was on the Disabled List.
On March 17, 2009, Lugo underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus cartilage. Lugo was expected to be out for three to four weeks. Upon his return, Lugo got off to a slow start and was on a day-to-day playing rotation with fellow shortstop Nick Green.[5]

ya its pretty bad on paper but he also got us 2 WS titles in a decade....ask cubbie fans if they wouldnt mind blowing that kind of money for 1 WS (seeing they already have a huge payroll)...there are LOT of teams who havent won shit in decades who would love to have had the last decade the redsox have had

dont get me wrong, im TOTALLY disgusted with the current redsox team, theo made a LOT of bad signings, signings like lackey i did not agree with (same with crawford) but i still think you have to look at everything in context not just black and white...jd drew was overpaid but he gave at least something in terms of #s (unlike crawford so far) and without his key HR in the playoffs vs cleveland, they dont win the 2nd WS

the redsox draw everynight they can afford to throw some money around and gamble lately more of these gambles have not paid off, thats the crux of the problem they need to stop throwing 80 million at a lackey just b/c he is one of the best free agents on the market that year and bc are need of a band aid and need to make headlines after a poor regular season. they need to smarten up and make better decisions even at the cost of a couple downs years. personally i think the fans would be more supportive of ownership coming out, admitting their mistakes and saying listen stick with us we are gonna turn things around instead of just going out this offseason and throwing 5years 110 million at greinke just b/c he is available
