Just where shall the Oakland Raiders play in the future? The NFL weighed in on the issue in a "secret meeting" held at the O.co Coliseum on Aug. 9, according to the Oakland Tribune.

The NFL requested the meeting to hear the Raiders and city officials pitch the idea of a renovated Coliseum with hotels, restaurants, and shops, the newspaper reported.

The Coliseum's other tenant, the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball, aren't interested and want out. So too are the Warriors headed to San Francisco. The Raiders prefer to stay in Oakland, but want to see if the NFL will pony up some cash, the newspaper reported.

The NFL shelled out $200 million for the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara, and also contributed $300 million to the new stadium for the league's two New York teams, the newspaper reportded.

City officials like Mayor Jean Quan, City Council President Larry Reid, and Alameda County Administrator SusanQ Muranishi, all of whom attended the meeting, all want to see the three Oakland teams play in a new venue on 750 acres in East Oakland owned by the city and county.

It's unsure how well-received the proposal will be, the newspaper reported. NFL officials are mum.

The Raiders "must develop a [stadium] option," an NFL spokesman said, but a sharing scheme with the 49ers at Santa Clara as well as a return to Los Angeles, where the Raiders played for over a decade before their Oakland redux in the 1990s, are also options.
