Used to be so good with money all the way up to 22... From that point on I spend like a maniac.... I have picked up some expensive tastes over the years and I don't know where it came from. Never had any money growing up.

Now it's expensive cars, drugs, gambling, etc ... Wish I could just slow it all down and try and live simpler. Hard to stop the machine.

I got bad habits during college. I had to find a job to be able to stay at TCU. I found a landman job and after the first year was making over 100k. I blew it all during college, didn't save a dime. I had the attitude that I was working full time during college and paying for ALL of my own shit, so if I wanted to go drop 500-600 at the bar on one night I did it. I don't blow money at the bar anymore but I still spend wayyyy too much on things I shouldn't. Getting married really helped me though, because now it is "our" money.

Finally gave up the landman gig after almost 10 years. Started a new job in sales this past week. Have a marketing degree and always wanted to be in sales. It was hard to give up the money I was making as a landman, but I would rather do something I enjoy. Not to mention, I have the chance to make at least triple what I made as a landman once I develop my craft. Spending habits are going to have to change now as I am starting a new career and probably won't make close in this first year to what I am used to making.

I'm tighter than a drum; by the way parlay, what's a landman?

Landman basically does a lot of things. Determining mineral ownership of land, leasing land for the oil and gas rights, things of that nature. Once you have a year or so of experience you can expect a dayrate of anywhere between $300-$500 a day. Usually they give you a per diem for food on top of that. PLUS they pay for all your mileage. a few months ago I was driving upwards of 140 miles a day. At 48.5 cents a mile, that shit adds up too.

I have been told they are practically BEGGING for landmen up north in Ohio and other places. Actually had a guy PM me on here a while back because he saw that I was a landman. He saw an ad in the paper up there in Ohio that was looking for landmen and willing to train them, and he wanted some more info.

Damn good paying gig, and hell at times after I graduated I was running 2 different clients for a total of about $800 a day, plus my per diem and mileage. The only part that sucks about it is a lot of the time you are couped up in the courthouse all day and projects can shut down with only a few hours notice. Not to mention MOST landmen have to be willing to travel all around the country. I got lucky and started in DFW right when they kicked off all the production out there in the Barnett Shale. I almost ALL of my time right there in DFW as well as doing some side work for a company down here in East Texas so I didn't have to move around.

I don't need or want things...

just get them when I want...

if I want a 100.00 steak or a .50 cent taco it don't matter...

the wife & kids just laugh at me....whatever

Ha. That is one thing I "waste" money on. Cigars. Don't really drink much anymore, besides during tailgating or smoking a cigar. I have cut down though over the last 6 months on how much I have spent on cigars. After a few years I have finally been able to develop a sense for what kind of cigars I like and have been able to identify some cheaper companies that make a cigar for $3 that is just as good to me as some i the $16-$20 range.

I don't spend much on myself. In fact, I hate shopping of any kind. I find it very boring. My wife loves to shop so I let her spend whatever she wants.

Love to spend money. In the last 2 months bought a new laptop, IPad, 50 inch Samsung Smart TV, surround theater system and waiting for the new Directv home media HD DVR. Within the next year will be buying a new SUV.

I have pissed a lot of money on things most people would say is a waste. But I don't really care. When I die the boys at all the bars I frequent won't be saying "that guy was a tightass".

I'd probably qualify as rather tight in general because I'm not spending on much money anymore, f.e. on stuff like electronics, cars, etc.
But it's just because I don't really care for that stuff anymore. On the other hand I'm still spending a bunch on bar tabs, eating out, nightclubs/concerts ... don't really care for the money spent, so I just spend it on these things I enjoy...since most of these nights are spent with friends and most of them are either students without a job or a badly paid job, many times I just pick up the tab for the whole night because to me a fun night out with friends still is the best thing I can spend money on.

I enjoy giving it away....I still believe money grows on trees, a contradiction that my late parents tried to instill in me...
