That's very interesting considering:

A)Edinson Volquez has been AWFUL over his past few starts. Just awful. Off the top of my head, I can't even remember the last time he went past four innings. It's been AT LEAST a few starts.
B)Lefty Justin Wilson is making his Major League debut for the Pirates tonight... notice the word "lefty," in which the Padres (If memory serves me correctly off the top of my head) are the second-worst NL team against left-handed pitching.

They have to know something because this isn't a game at all where you put that much on it. Not even close. In fact, I'd say you should NEVER bet that much on a game when it involves a starting pitcher making their *Major League Debut* because that's arguably the biggest variable one can wrestle with, and you never know what to expect (Unless you PERSONALLY know said starting pitcher. Do they know Justin Wilson personally, perhaps?). There's no foundation for it because it's so unpredictable and skewed either way with its potential outcomes.

The ONLY reason has to be because Pitt Played 19 innings yesterday and then had to fly across the country. That is it. I like Pitt to keep their run going at + money

Love your write ups cats... Solid dude

Ps, maybe volquez is "due"..

Thanks man, always appreciate the feedback on my long write-ups since I put so much work into them :)

Anyway, that last comment is very valid, as I'm a BIG believer in the Law of Averages. However, I've been thinking that over his past couple of starts and he's still be struggling, which more than likely means it could be a confidence issue is developing, in which he needs to gradually improve over a few starts, rather than one, before he starts regularly recording lengthy dominant starts again. Also, Volquez was ROCKED by the Pirates only a week and a half ago on a Friday night in Pittsburgh, in which he clearly didn't have anything going that night (I watched the first five innings; he was gone before then). At least he's much better at home so he's got that going for him.

Should be interesting to see what happens, especially since I have Volquez in fantasy and NEED him to pick it up as I make my postseason push.

That's a very good point as well, skyla. Didn't think of that.

And as you said, I actually think that will do wonders for them as opposed to the opposite. After all, when they lost that 17-inning game last year on the controversial call at home plate in Atlanta last year, it triggered a long losing streak that knocked them far out of contention. This year with the opposite result could trigger the opposite kind of run, although a long plane trip following a 19-inning game, if they face the *normal* Edinson Volquez, they'll be in big trouble offensively, as they'll most likely be going through the motions against a guy you can't afford to do that against (IF it's the normal Edinson Volquez, that is)

On the contrary, Justin Wilson didn't make the long flight because he wasn't with the team yesterday (His contract was just purchased this morning) so he's in on normal sleep and normal conditions.

Ahh, too many variables to consider. This is a game to avoid.

Most likely their betting a large amount because of the Pirates 19 inning game last night in St Louis. They got out of there very late and used a lot of pitchers in that game and throughout the series. Way to steep for me but may put a little action on the game.

good luck tonight

I'll NEVER put $100,000 on the SD Padres...........even when Tony Gwynn was there. If they win, congrats to them........but not worthy to risk this much on a 53-70 team.

Wait a minute... and now Kevin Correia is starting for Pittsburgh??? Did Clint Hurdle decide to change his mind an hour before gametime??? WTF?

Apparently those two guys who put all that money on San Diego DID know something. Although just because Correia's starting doesn't mean that type of action should be put against him, he's a nice starting pitcher who was an all-star as recently as a year ago. Plus he loves these opportunities mentally, since he was demoted to the bullpen recently and is looking for every chance to re-prove himself to get back into the rotation. Interesting.

The question is..........was it ACTION/LISTED pitchers? Correia started the game. I'm sure a lot of ppl go with LISTED because they know the pitching matchup and that is the basis for determining a lot of factors.

That's a good point. With my site, you don't even have that option, as the starters listed NEED to both make the start for the bet to count. In fact, Justin Wilson was listed as the starter up until gametime so actually, it was literally impossible to make a wager on the over/under on my site. Wonder how it was with other sportsbooks.
