Seattle. RL. 3 units
Tampa. RL. 3 units.

I'm playing these together because they are so much alike. I can't think of two more dominant pitchers in the past month that Price and Felix. I have watched them both, and they look extremely confident, pitching with excellent command, and their stuff is almost unhittable. There's top of the line pitchers like Weaver and Kershaw and Verlander, but these 2 at this moment are just consistently amazing. And we all know that truly great pitching can even shut down the best of lineups.

I know I'll get some flack for taking Felix after his perfect game, but not all pitchers have a let down after a no hitter or perfect game. And Felix shut down the Rays, a hot team. Now he faces the horribly slumping Indians. The Mariners also are a winning streak and finally have some swagger. They are one of the top fielding teams in the AL, and seem to play even better D when Felix is on the mound. They face Roberto "Carmona" Hernandez, whose first start had him going 6 IPs, 0 walks and 0 Ks- but 10 hits and 6 runs. Seattle hit righties better, and Michael Saunders has got a very hot bat right now.

Tampa is even playing better. They demolished the Angels in a 4 game road sweep. That is pretty rare vs. a contender with a good pitching staff. The Rays face Hochevar, who is pitching poorly again. His last 5 starts: 26 runs in 27 IPs. I'll say it again- the Rays BP is top notch. KC is capable of scoring runs, but considering how well Price is pitching, how good the Rays' BP is, and how badly Hochevar is pitching, it's hard to see the Rays not winning this game big.

I also think the Rays and Mariners don't want to end their streaks with their aces on the mound. Playing at home, with a good crowd, on a winning streak, your best on the mound- it can inspire a team to play the game like it's a special event, not just another game in a long season.

Phillies-1/2. First 5 IPs. One unit. Homer Bailey has been getting hit hard lately, and his poor starts have been against poor hitting teams or slumping teams. His last start vs. the Mets showed that the Mets have a pulse, and his last quality start was vs. the Astros about a month ago. He has never pitched this many innngs before and the last 2 seasons was shut down to shoulder issues. Cliff Lee is not the elite pitcher he once was, but he is still a very good #2 . His strikeout:walk ratio has been excellent. If anyone is due for a win considering their stats it's Cliff Lee. Also like the Phillies feeling that this is their chance to screw up the Reds playoff picture. That this is their playoffs since they're not going. Phils have dominated the Reds for the past year or so.
Phils-1. One unit.

Texas. RL. One unit.
Texas. -1/2. First 5 IPs. Probably too many faves today, but this one also has me taking the bait. Feldman has pitched against some of the best hitting teams in the AL, and pitched well. Not spectacular, but stays competitive. Tillman has gotten hit pretty hard vs. the better teams, and only stifled the Mariners(twice) and Tampa and Cleveland in slump mode. It's also possible the Rangers are finally breaking out. They usually start each series slowly, but hit Gonzalez well Monday. And 1-9 their lineup is just much better than the O's. Back to Feldman- He has been effective with good control, a curve for an out pitch, good movement on his fastball, and other pitches mixing speed and location. He looks like a guy who doesn't want to get dropped from the rotation in crunch time. Last year he looked great in the Tiger playoff series. The Orioles have some injuries that prevent them from using some situational hitting, and after Markakis and Jones, the lineup is nothing to be feared.

Rockies. ML. One unit. Could these 2 lineups be any more polar opposite? The Rockies are hitting about .330, with a good BB:K ratio the past week, while the Mets flop around to score 1 or 2 runs. Last night the Rockies beat Dickey with stinking Alex White on the mound. Tonight's pitching matchup is more favorable to the Rockies. Chacin pitched well in his last rehab start, and has the ground ball thing going. Chris Young has been inconsistent, and always needs BP help. With the Mets BP help can mean trouble. The Rockies just seem to be trying harder than the Mets.

You were dead on about Price, fred. Problem is Hochever is either outstading or awful with no middle ground...and he picked outstanding tonight. Just crappy luck.

Hope King Felix gets a win to give you the split...

Sorry, Fred. Both your pitchers were lights out on your 3* plays, but you're going to lose both because neither offense could do a GD thing. Really sucks...
