Thursday: 1-1, -.45 units. Verlander does his job, but the Tigers can't get to Happ. Have lost a lot of games in situations where a top of the line pitcher gets out pitched by a much lesser pitcher. Maybe these lesser pitchers bring their A game knowing it's the only way their team has a chance. Or maybe the Tigers just are in one of their jags again where they just can't pull away.

CINN. ML. 2 units
CINN. RL. 2 units. Lance Lynn has been hit hard since his all-star appearance. 19 runs in his last 26.1 IPs. And some of those hit/ runs were against teams not exactly at the top of the hitting food chain or slumping. He might be suffering from some fatigue or a tired arm, and Jamie Garcia might step into the rotation if it continues. Latos on the other hand has out pitched even Johhny Cueto for the past 2 months. He rarely gives up a long ball and walks very few.

The Cards are coming off a sweep of the lowly Astros. It seems as if the last few teams that plastered the Astros played poorly in their next series. Possibly because the Stros have no pitching, poor fielding and a AAA lineup. Maybe teams get into lazy habits because they can win anyways. Whatever it is, the Cards just saw some very crappy pitching, and will now see a legitimate quality starter, and a great BP. Cards BP not nearly as good. Motte is looking less like a closer lately.

The Cards only have 2 HRs in the past week, while the Reds have 15, with about a .300 avg. If they can keep Miguel Cairo out of the lineup, they might continue to hit.

Anyways, I like the Reds playing loose at home in the first game of their series against their division rivals who are a distant 2nd.

LAA. ML. 3 units. This play is not just based on the Angels remarkable comeback win in Boston Thursday, without Pujols. It's also big on the idea that Detroit is not hitting well as a team. In the past 2 weeks they have been held to a low run total by Happ, Zach Britton(who was getting hammered until then), Aaron Laffey (also pitching poorly at the time), Deduno of the Twins, D. Holland has his best start vs. DET. in a long, long time, Darvish…. The Tigers have beaten up on a couple of scrubs, and got lucky with Romero who walked 8 earlier this week. Greinke has been a disappointment, but he is still more likely to pitch better than Porcello, who has a .311 BAA this year. The Angels are getting amazing production out of their lineup, even the bottom lineup guys- while Detroit is getting almost zippo from their bottom lineup guys. Pujols and Cabrera might play, might not.

This game is off the card at 5 Dimes, but at other books it's about even money.

Tampa. 2 units -1. Gonna test my theory on hot, very good pitchers here. Moore has been improving as the year has gone on. He has reduced HRs, walks, while getting more poor contact outs- and not working so hard to get to the later innings. Jarrod Parker started out hot, but has faded badly, especially on the road. I'm also a believer that the A's are streaky team. Based on how easily Cobb held them down Thursday, I think Moore will do as well. Besides the Rays are just winning a lot, and have the confidence thing going.

Miami. ML. One unit. Can't believe I'm laying my money down on the Marlins who I have derided all year. Ozzie is still a moron, but right now they have some hot hitters on this road trip, and hit well even before it. The Dodgers are still in shock from their 3 game embarrassment to the Giants. I say the Marlins catch them off their game here. Especially since the Dodger AREN'T hitting well. Hanley Ramirez and Eovaldi get to face their former teams. That stuff might be important in football, or maybe basketball, but it's overrated in baseball. Billingsley, who has been pitching well, is the reason the Marlins are +200, but I think even he is overdue for a few runs.

Rangers. RL. Deduno has a funky delivery and his pitches move a lot. Even he or his catcher don't know where they might wind up. But the Rangers have seem him in July, and he tends to be less effective the 2nd time around . Also, don't want to miss out in case the Rangers are getting crazy hot again. Beltre is killing it and it might be infectious. Harrison is also due for a better outing, and is generally regarded as the Rangers most reliable starter.
