The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly agreed to make a nine-player blockbuster trade that has been rumored since Friday afternoon.
FoxSports.com reported Saturday morning that the Dodgers have agreed in principle to obtain first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, right-handed starter Josh Beckett, outfielder Carl Crawford and utility player Nick Punto, as well as cash from the Red Sox. Boston will receive five players in exchange: right-handed pitchers Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa, first baseman James Loney, Ivan DeJesus Jr. and outfielder Jerry Sands.
A source told Fox Sports that the deal is "pretty much done." Beckett and Crawford waived their no-trade rights and signed off on medical reports.
The teams reached the final stages of discussions late Friday night.
ESPNBoston.com was first to report the teams were close to making the trade.
The struggling Red Sox are ridding themselves of more than $250 million worth of contracts while the contending Dodgers are looking to spend more in hopes of winning a National League West title and more.
After this year, Gonzalez is owed $109.3 million through 2017, Crawford $106.8 million through 2017 and Beckett $34 million through 2014. Punto's salary for next season is $1.5 million.
Talks of the deal started after the Dodgers claimed Gonzalez and Beckett on waivers from the Red Sox. Beckett has struggled with a 5-11 record and 5.23 ERA. Gonzalez is hitting .300 with 15 home runs and 86 RBI. Crawford is out for the season with Tommy John surgery and Punto is hitting just .200.
Los Angeles was interested in acquiring Beckett before the non-waiver deadline and Gonzalez likely would have been open to a trade to the Dodgers in the offseason.

The Fried Chicken Eating, Beer Chugging Asshole Is Gone!!!! Thank The Lawd.

Jesus, where do I start.* Josh Beckett is one of the most unlikeable players in the history of the Red Sox organization.* Im convinced he was the poison in the clubhouse.* Sure the Red Sox had to ship Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford with him, but I dont give a shit.* Crawford was a waste of space and Gonzalez is replaceable.

The biggest douchebag in the history of the Red Sox is gone and I have a pants tent of epic proportions.* Hes friggin gone!* The only people who are going to miss this prick are the employees at Popeye's.* Good riddance.
