Saturday: 3-5, -4.9 units. Getting nickel and dimed, or worse, this week. Nevertheless, I feel that I haven't really made too many bonehead plays. Many of them are barely losing- though barely losing is still losing. Two 3 run homers in the first by Cleveland and Seattle kind of made it tough to come back from. Earl Weaver was right, good pitching and 3 run homers are about all you need to win.

Colorado. ML. 3 units. Man, did the Rockies get the best of their trade with the Cubs. Stewart is on the DL, while both players the Rockies got are contributing. Chacin looked like he is ready to be the only quality starter the Rockies have in his last start back from the DL. Great slider and good control. The Rockies BP has also surprised us in that they have been able to hold leads. The Rockies have a pretty good hitting attack 1-8, with many power sources. The Cubs seem to wait for Soriano to hit a HR or they aren't likely to score. The Cubs are also trying out a few young players who so far haven't hit very well. Volstad has been avoiding the early knockout, though he has only been mediocre so far in his 4 starts back from the minors. The Rockies are playing their best baseball in a while the Cubs are possibly playing out the string. Two losing clubs- sometimes the road team plays looser.

STL. Two units. ML.
STL. One unit RL.
STL. One unit -1/2 first 5 IPs. I just can't see Bailey out pitching Wainright here. Wainright has an incredible BB:K ratio in his last many starts, while Bailey has faced some of the crumbs of the NL- and hasn't fared too well overall. Bailey has especially pitched poorly at home. He has a tendency to give up the long ball and can get knocked around vs. good hitting teams. The Reds are comfortably in first place and don't need this game all that much, while STL is fighting for their playoff position.

Texas. RL. 2 units. Kicking myself for not being on the Rangers during their crazy hot hitting streak here, but I think it'll continue. DeVries has nothing special to offer and has been getting killed since early July. Many HRs. His last really good start was vs. Texas, but that was a slumping, low confidence Texas team. Not now. On Saturday, Beltre their hottest hitter went 0-4, and they still easily rolled the Twins. Feldman is a decent pitcher who really wants to earn his spot in the rotation. Also, most of the Twins hits in this series have come when the Rangers were already up a bunch of runs.
Texas. TT. One unit.
