Yes! Except one of the details you gave was wrong... it was BASES LOADED, and the most important thing about this was that Mat Latos was CLEARLY on the ropes, having walked three straight guys, even one with the bases loaded before this play, and was so rattled that he was barking at the umpire and violently shaking his glove in frustration. I know Latos as well as anybody and he was definitely in trouble that inning, he's a very mentally-oriented pitcher, and when things aren't going his way, he unravels very easily, despite his incredible, incredible talent (He's a legitimate ace). Mentally, he can be a disaster in almost a Ricky Romero-sense of it
However, that play completely bailed him out. It was a CLEAR BOTCHED CALL, as the replays even showed, and it's disgusting that home plate umpire Bill Welke didn't gather up the rest of the crew to get the fucking call right. I had the over of 8 (My only loss tonight), and while the score ended up 2-1, it would have been a much, much different ballgame. First of all, the ball dropped, which would've scored another run, and there still would have been bases-loaded, one out, with the mentally-out-of-it Latos still in there in deep trouble. My guess is Welke didn't know the rule and made the "easy call," as to avoid any potential arguments, even though there's an actual solution for such plays, as we saw in a Yankee game earlier this year (It was assumed the ball was trapped and they let the runners advance one base or something, due to the non-call or late call in that scenario). Well, unfortunately, Welke didn't go through with that (He was supposed to just shoot the play dead and have one runner advance each base due to not making any sort of clear ruling, and the ball dropped anyway!), and that ruined the whole game.
Very unfortunate when a bullshit call directly influences the game, and that's exactly what happened here.
