2-1 in 2012 WNBA.

Phoenix at Conn
7pm eastern Friday (Sept. 7, 2012)
under 166.5 (Pinnacle)

I like the under in this game. Phoenix got Diana Taurasi back and won two in a row but just traveled to New York and lost badly after PG Sam Prahalis was injured (shoulder). The Mercury are already without Penny Taylor (scored 26 at Conn last year) and Candace Dupree is out too. Taurasi only played 15 minutes on Wednesday after the team got behind. They relied on players like Hornbuckle, Thomas, Gilbreath, Houston, Sanford and Kizer.

Corey Gaines is a good coach and should have the team ready on Friday. Taurasi can score quickly but the team is 6-20 and tied for last with Tulsa while Connecticut is 20-7. Both teams games average in that 159-160 range. Teams like Minnesota, San Antonio, LA, Atlanta and Tulsa are involved in some higher scores while Seattle and NY are lower scoring teams in their games.

The last two Phoenix road games ended with 146 at NY and 143 at Seattle. The Mercury have 19 unders and 7 overs in the last 26 road games. Here are their last few game totals:

146
184* (home game as Bonner, Taurasi and Prahalis played great)
143
157
166*
136
140
147
161

As for Connecticut, they can score points quickly with Tina Charles, Kara Lawson and Renee Montgomery but Asjha Jones is out with an injury. They have played 3 OT home games to push their average up. Here are the last few games for Connecticut:

147
167*
157
155
152
148 (before OT)
159
145
132 (before OT)
158
147

There are only a few weeks left in the season. Taurasi and Dewanna Bonner could step up and play well on Friday night. I don't know about the extent of Sam Prahalis' injury but she can't be 100%. The past games involving these teams have been VERY HIGH scoring with higher totals than 166.5 but I like our chances for an under on Friday. For this to go over both teams will need to start hot and stay that way. GL!

It ends 91-82 (173). Both teams made 11 3-pointers and that killed the under. Conn forgot to guard Bonner as she scores 35 points.

Phoenix + points was definitely the play as they packed it in on Wednesday and had nothing to lose tonight.
