I have them playing in NO come February

O/U 10 wins....that looks good so far

Defense looks like it will be a Juggernaut this season.... and with the Options they have on the offensive side they could easily get a bye in the 1st rd

a nice article on the Texans win over the Jag's

ReFo: Texans @ Jaguars, Week 2

Gordon McGuinness | 2012/09/17

After a late loss in Minnesota, the Jaguars returned home in a bid to try and upset the AFC South Champion Houston Texans in their home opener.
For the Texans it marked an opportunity to set down an early marker in the division and further their credentials as Super Bowl contenders after last week’s win at home to the Miami Dolphins.
There was no late game heartache for the Jaguars this time however, as the Texans jumped out to a 17-0 lead before easing their way to a 2-0 start. The game featured some poor offensive play from the home team and a second straight dominant performance from a certain Texans defensive lineman. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the standout performers, both good and bad, in this one.
Houston – Three Performances of Note
Best in the League?
It’s only Week 2, and we’ve got an awful lot of football left to see, but you’ll struggle to find a better defensive player in the NFL right now than J.J. Watt (+8.8). Following up last week’s impressive performance against the Miami Dolphins, Watt was absolutely devastating on the rare occasions the Jags had possession of the ball. Registering two sacks, two hits, a hurry and two batted passes, he was too much for Guy Whimper (-3.7) and Uche Nwaneri (-1.6) to handle. To put those numbers into context, the Jaguars ran 26 pass plays in the game and Watt made an impact on seven of them. Against the run he was just as relentless, finishing the game with three defensive stops, and he topped the day off with a fumble recovery on the Jaguars’ final offensive play on 1st-and-10 with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter. A fitting end to a truly spectacular day.
How to Run the Ball
If you’re looking to find the best way to run the football in the NFL, the Texans put on an absolute clinic on Sunday afternoon, racking up 216 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. They did this through a combination of strong play from running backs Arian Foster (+2.7) and Ben Tate (+3.2) and an offensive line that moved the Jaguars’ defensive line at will all game long. Every Houston offensive lineman finished the game with a positive grade as a run blocker with Wade Smith (+2.2 in the run game) and Chris Myers (+1.8) standing out. That certainly made life easier for the running backs, but they made the most out of it as well, finishing runs and forcing missed tackles like Arian Foster’s on 3rd-and-1 with 4:36 left in the second quarter. After already gaining the first down, he ran through the tackle of safety Dawan Landry to gain another seven yards. It was running like this that propelled the Texans to their first playoff berth a year ago and, if they can continue, it looks likely to push them toward a quick return to the postseason.
Texans Defensive Backs
While they may have not been up against an elite quarterback and receiver combo, the Texans’ defensive backs had a solid outing in pass coverage. Allowing just nine receptions for 76 yards through the air as a group, they were always close to the Jaguars receivers. The team’s 2010 first-round draft pick Kareem Jackson (+1.3) was the most impressive of the bunch and while he never got his hands on a pass, he was still able to stay close enough to the receiver to force two of the three incompletions thrown into his coverage. Through the first two weeks of the season he has allowed just 60 yards through the air, looking like a much improved player from his first two years in the league.

I hope they make it, after watching and suffering with the Oilers from the early 70's until they left, the Texans winning it all would be great.

After beginning the season with a pair of 20-point victories, the Texans are 2-0 for the fourth time in six seasons.
They’ve never been 3-0.
If the Texans want to be taken seriously — if they want to earn the kind of respect perennial Super Bowl contenders receive — they should defeat the Broncos in Denver.
When it comes to making the playoffs or winning the Super Bowl, the Texans don’t have to beat the Broncos.
For instance, since the current playoff format was implemented in 1990, 64 percent of 2-0 teams and 76 percent of 3-0 teams made the playoffs.
During that same 22-year span, eight teams that started 2-1 won the Super Bowl, including the Giants last year and the Packers the year before.
Eleven teams that started 3-0 won the Super Bowl.
What Sunday’s game means to the Texans transcends the won-loss column. It means respect. It means the kind of recognition that comes with doing something most don’t think you can do.
Like the Cincinnati game last year in which rookie quarterback T.J. Yates threw the winning touchdown pass to Kevin Walter that allowed the Texans to win the AFC South.
Winning at Denver is no easy task. The Texans should have beaten the Broncos in 2010. They had the game won, but they blew it when they let quarterback Tim Tebow pull out a 24-23 victory.
The odds say the Texans won’t win this game. They’ve never beaten quarterback Peyton Manning on the road. They were 0-9 against him at Indianapolis.
But the Texans have never had Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator when they played Manning.
The Texans are coming off, statistically at least, the best defensive game in team history. They allowed 117 yards in the 27-7 win at Jacksonville. Subtract a 32-yard pass completion, and they would have surrendered 85 yards.
The defense was so good it didn’t allow a third-down conversion. Nine times the Jaguars faced third down, and nine times they had to punt. In two games, the Texans are allowing an average of only 190 yards and 2-of-19 third-down conversions.
Shutting down Miami’s Ryan Tannehill and Jacksonville’s Blaine Gabbert was pretty impressive. Now let’s see them do it to Manning, who will be eager to redeem himself after a loss Monday night.
The Texans’ best chance to start 3-0 relies on a strategy similar to the Jacksonville game. Run the ball to control the clock. It keeps your defense fresh. More importantly, it keeps the opposing offense on the bench.
If the Texans can come close to doing to Denver what they did to Jacksonville — running 48 times for 216 yards — it says here they’ll make franchise history. If coach Gary Kubiak unleashes the double-headed monster of Arian Foster and Ben Tate again, the Texans might remain unbeaten.
If they lose, they won’t be able to blame it on the high altitude. Kubiak played and coached in the Mile High City for 20 years. He knows the effect the altitude can have on an athlete.
“I think it’s been proven that if you think you’re going to go (to Denver) early to get used to it, that doesn’t work,” he said Monday. “But just to fly in town on Saturday and play on Sunday, I don’t think it affected us the last time we played there.”
The Texans didn’t let the altitude get to them. They let Tebow get to them. Now he’s relocated to New Jersey.
“There are no excuses or anything,” Kubiak said. “We’ve got to play good football, and we got to do it at their place.”
When the Texans played at Denver in 2010, Kubiak admitted the game was special because of all the time he spent there.
Asked the same question, he smiled and said, “They’re all special.”
Yeah, they all are special, but not like this one because of what it can mean to a franchise that’s struggled for so long to develop the kind of identity that means instant respect. And the way to get that respect is to earn it, starting Sunday in the Mile High City.

Jets get all the buzz, but Texans are the real story in Monday night’s matchup

By Doug Farrar | Shutdown Corner – 5 hours ago

Houston deserves more praise and exposure, but they won't get it on Monday night. No doubt the guys in the booth -- and this isn't an indictment of ESPN, because everybody does it -- will focus on what the Jets aren't doing, even as the Texans are establishing dominance on both sides of the ball. But if you appreciate the game over the hype, the Texans are the team you should be watching this evening.

It’s official: Brian Cushing out for year with torn ACL

Published on October 9th, 2012

Head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed the worst about inside linebacker Brian Cushing Tuesday afternoon: He’s lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in the second quarter of the Texans 23-17 victory over the Jets Monday night.
An MRI Tuesday morning revealed the damage. He’ll have surgery in a couple of weeks, after the swelling has gone down.
“Big blow to our team,” Kubiak said. “You feel bad for Brian because he works so hard and was playing so well.”
It’s the second time in three seasons the Texans have lost their defensive captain. DeMeco Ryans suffered a torn Achilles tendon after a 4-2 start in 2010, after which the Texans lost eight of their next nine games to finish 6-10.
Kubiak said Tim Dobbins is “option No. 1” to step in for Cushing, who’s also the team’s leading tackler, in the starting lineup against Green Bay at Reliant Stadium Sunday night.
“You don’t replace players like Cush,” Kubiak said. “The whole team has to step up.”
The 25-year-old Cushing, who was leading the team in tackles, suffered the injury when he was rolled on a questionable block by New York guard Matt Slauson early in the second quarter of the Texans’ 23-17 win over the Jets last night.
“He’ll get well,” Kubiak said of Cushing. “Brian’s got a brilliant future ahead of him.”

Karma is a bitch for that cheap shot a-hole from the Jets.
