seen a bunch of random threads about this topic, but not really one that seems to last for more than a day or so before it falls to page 5, so I figured id start one up and see where it goes. Since getting a house with a group of friends back at the beginning of august i have been trying to eat much healthier than before and mix in working out.

i really havent been weighing myself for the past month and a half, i figure its all numbers and i rather focus on the physical changes i see/feel then just some random number. Ill post in here what I eat daily (it wont always be the absolute best thing, but its alot better than wendys, pizza hut, ice cream shit i was doing before).

anyone else can feel free to chime in if they are doing anything similar, want to provide tips or suggestions or just have a general comment they would like to make. Good luck to all involved.

todays meals

breakfast- 3 scrambled eggs, wheat toast, orange juice

lunch- low fat yogurt and fiber one bar

dinner- steak and salad

dessert- protein shake

working out- did about 35-45 mins of jogging/walking. Im taking alot of supplements to help with my diet/working out. I take 3 ripped fuel weight loss pills, 1 multi vitamin, and 2-3 potassium pills a day (helps with cramps/muscles). before working out (30 mins or so) ill take a supplement like jack 3d or c4 for an energy boost to aid my workout. im about 1 1/2 months into changing my diet, i pretty much only drink water daily, sometimes i will have a crystal light packet for a change of pace. i try to drink around 120-150 ozs of water a day. I can notice clothes fitting alot better than before, pants getting much loser than they were before and so on. Im going to begin lifting here in the next few days and add in crunching/sit ups to my running. ideally i want to get down to around 225 lbs (im 6'3-6'4 ish), but this is a long term life change and not some quick hit im looking to do and then fall back to my old ways, so id like to make this slow and steady then some dramatic loss that i just gain back

looks like a good menu for today.

but like all things the devil is in the details.

on the surface you're looking at about 1400 cal. for today... but if you cook those eggs in butter, or put butter on that steak, or use salad dressing, butter or jam on that toast...10 oz of OJ or 8 oz, or 6 oz???

100 cals per day equals almost a 1/4 lb a week in fat either gained or lost.

get a cal counter app for your phone, or find an online version, and log EVERYTHING.

also weigh yourself everyday and keep track of it on a moving average chart (google for one), don't worry about the day to day fluctuations just focus on your moving average going up or down... if it goes up: eat less, goes down: stay on program.

you'll never lose it with working out. it will help but you need to lose it in the kitchen and keep it off in the gym.

even a one pound loss of fat is a big deal:

Read this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Never-Be-Fat-Again-Permanently/dp/0757305318

The very first thing you have to do, is break the sugar habit. And by breaking the sugar habit, I mean ZERO sugar consumption. This isn't easy because sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or about a dozen other variations is in everything. Processed sugar is a chemical that does not appear on its own in nature and it affects the brain much in the same way a narcotic does. Those are the reasons why it makes us so fat.

Some of the things in that book are way out there and I'm not following it exactly (it basically advocates for a raw food diet) but it does a good job describing what the processed garbage we eat does to our body. I'm incorporating parts of it into my daily life.

In my opinion, if you drop refined sugar and white flour you could eat whatever else you want, within reason.

Funny you mention this, I quit coffee sunday. Just realized my routine everyday for like maybe 6 months had been getting a coffee from starbucks (large ice coffee with half and half and 2 sugar packets usually) right when I wokeup and decided to quit. I got bad headaches for a few days (even today still sluggish) but I already feel better.

I quit soda in december and haven't had a soda since so I guess coffee kinda substituted for the soda for me, but I decided to cut that out too.

I don't know why people recommend this stuff for someone simply looking to drop 20 pounds or whatever. I doubt the success rate of people who take the time to log EVERY single thing they eat into their phone is very high. If I needed to lose weight I'd get sick of that in about 3 days. Gaining muscle, training for a sport is hard, I don't think losing weight is THAT hard...

Exercise, eat healthy foods and limit the shit (beer, processed food, fast food, crap etc) and you will be fine.

Logging things definitely helps for some reason. It just keeps you on track. I have had one very successful diet where I lost about 20 lbs and logged everything for about 45 days. I have tried just eating better and not logging anything and I start eating shitty again within a couple days. Obviously it needs to be important to you and something you want to do or it will never work. Dedication is a 24 hour a day job and it isn't easy. Good luck

Agree wholeheartedly with Death 's advice. Cut out sugar and flour. I am on a low carb/ high fat regime for 4 months now and have gone from 224 to 198. Notice I didn't say diet because with this you are never hungry to deprived.

Cut out bread (including wheat bread) potatoes, rice, pasta, sugar, but eat all the meat you want. Bacon and eggs for breakfast not cereal. Not orange juice which has a lot of sugar, fructose. Use Equal in your coffee if you don't like it black. Plenty of vegetables other than potatoes and corn. green vegetables or coil flower.

The key is carbs not calories. Probably eating more calories than before but the right ones.as for beer and alcohol. Light beer is ok in moderation. Calorie wise only a little less than regular beer but carb wise, one regular is equal to 3 light beers. Vodka soda with lime not vodka tonic or OJ. Works for me. Hope it helps anyone else.

i found the easiest way to lose weight is simple water... you dont have to work out at all just drink water no soda if you want a drink cut it with half water i lost 50 pounds just adding water in and getting rid of soda beer etc.... that all got lost when i got surgery on my knee and gained it all back... now i dont even care i do my normal excerise not trying to lose weight even though im overweight .... speaking of this what has happened to the world i remember driving on a nice day and you would see nice females out running now all you see is men ... now on a fri or sat nite the gym is packed as people waste their life on the treadmill i truly dont get it... the world has flipped females run the show even more now..... what happened to go to work get home relax enjoy a home cooked meal... now its get home run 10 miles and drink a protein shake.... sad
