He has also had tournament victories stripped away, been suspended for 3 games, had scholarships reduced, recruiting restrictions, prohibition from a particular booster and 3 years probation. Solid guy.

Jim Calhoun will be sorely missed. He took kids and made them into men. He showed tough love but there was never a doubt that he loved his players. I will miss his hands up in the air calling a TO with 19:30 left in the 1st half as well as the endless F Bombs from the bench. There are those that will believe what they want to believe about him, but his violations were minor in nature. His scholarships that were taken away are for a practice that is now legal. Anyone who thinks that a former rogue team manager was a booster is sadly misinformed. It took me a very long time to forgive him for not guarding Laettner, but I grew to respect him and see him as one of the best coaches in the game.

I bummed, but I love Ollie too

knows the system, hard working to this day, conditioning won't slip a notch, smart, personable, loves CT, and his extended NBA career because of his amazing work ethic gives him a lot of street cred

in less than two years, he's landed a few big names too

How will Ollie fare?

Ollie should do well. This year may actually be good for him because there are no expectations so he has a year to get his feet under him. I am glad they hired a CT guy and like Willie said, he has already shown he can recruit.

Someday I will type out my Nate Miles and Josh Nochimson story. Let's just say the NCAA didn't have all the facts.

Come on Will, you and I both know he cheated as much as any coach out there with the exception of Calipari. Guy did whatever it took to win a few games. Good riddance.

From a gambling perspective, I won't miss him at all. He was tough as hell to cap as his interviews, the fluxes in his teams, definitely kept me in the negative.

1) a former team manager, an agent of the University by NCAA standards, wanted to be an agent and attached himself to a weak link that committed to UConn. What was the improper benefit Miles received from this agent of the Univ? A minor surgery that UConn would have paid for once he enrolled. The wannabe agent convinced him it would be better to have to surgery before he enrolled, so he could workout with the team all summer. Being an agent of the Univ, the NCAA ruled Calhoun didn't promote institutional controls, thus they suspended him three days. If the wannabe agent had no past connections to UConn, nothing at all happens. If Calhoun provided illegal benefits and then lied, his career would have been ended by the NCAA.

2) in 2010, two freshmen quit the team after the season and dropped out of school. The APR gives 1 point for every player that returns to school, and 1 point if they're in good academic standing. UConn lost 4 points. On a basketball team, that hard to overcome and it's the primary reason UConn failed their APR scoring (a self reporting score BTW, how many schools fuck themselves?) The NCAA then prosecuted them and restricted scholarships according to the rules. 18 months later, they changed their rules making a tournament ban the penalty. They prosecuted UConn again using the same years and the same players and implemented the post season ban for 2013. Double jeopardy AND applying rule changes retroactively, a classic.

there is not one thing Jim Calhoun did that justifies the hate, except win and do it with less regarded players. I wear the hate like a badge of honor.

when up big, he took the air out of the ball

for the first three months, he forces his players to run the offense he desires, results or inefficiencies be damned. He wanted them to be playing their best and playing to his will in March.

I concur, touch man to cap, especially until March

Reminds me of a couple local Judges...... :think2:

most everyone always spoke highly of them before they went to prison......

bottom line is "greed" never retires.

Calhoun was competitive, especially when it came to recruiting. People dont like him because he beat them out for players, which is just sour milk. Its not like he moved a players parents to CT and got them jobs like Coach K does (except he does it in Durham area)
