They may push Stewart to play. He's largely hands-off from a fantasy perspective this week, but could add some juice to Carolina's offense.

This was the thinking all week. Dales reports that Stewart will test the ankle in pregame warm-ups as Carolina coaches look on and a final decision will be made then, but the running back is fully expected to suit up. The Panthers sure could use him after the offense generated a meager ten yards on the ground in Week 1 against the Bucs. Stewart isn't recommended for fantasy lineups this week, especially at less than 100 percent. Give him a week or so until plugging him back in.

Stewart isn't known to have aggravated his ankle injury versus the Saints, but coach Ron Rivera said he is concerned about his availability on a short week. Rivera concedes that he might not know Stewart's Week 3 status until Thursday morning. Be sure to have another option available at flex this week.

Stewart picked up a toe injury in Sunday's return, though coach Ron Rivera says the two issues are related. Stewart was a game-time call each of the first two weeks, sitting in Week 1 before playing in Week 2. Considering the short week, he'll be up against it to suit up against the Giants. You need to be making other plans at your flex spot.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera confirmed as much to NFL Network's Stacey Dales. Official word should come down around 7ET, but Stewart owners need to be ready to roll with someone else in their RB2/flex spot. Stewart's absence would give DeAngelo Williams another shot at feature duties after he ended up with a Chris Johnson-esque -1 yards on six Week 1 carries.

Jonathan Stewart (toe/ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice.

Stewart was limited last week, but likely got in a full session after escaping Sunday's loss without further injury. Splitting carries with DeAngelo Williams, J-Stew will be a dicey flex option against the Seahawks' elite run defense.

The Associated Press confirms coach Ron Rivera planned to use Jonathan Stewart as the "clear featured back" in Week 7 versus the Cowboys.

Beat writer Steve Reed notes that Rivera "tried to change things up schematically" to give Stewart a shot "as the workhorse running back." Rivera indicated that other such personnel and scheme changes could be coming this week, though he did not expand on his backfield plans. Stewart played 58 snaps in Week 7 compared to 15 for Mike Tolbert and just five for a benched DeAngelo Williams. If Rivera does want to establish Stewart, it makes sense to give him more than a one-week audition. Stewart is talented enough to turn the Panthers' struggling ground attack around. He should be owned in all fantasy leagues going forward.

Coach Ron Rivera clarified that Jonathan Stewart's sprain is of the high-ankle variety.

The injury is to Stewart's left ankle, not the right one that was injured in the preseason. Rivera is calling Stewart "day to day," which is hardly a realistic timetable for a high-ankle sprain. Until we hear differently, we will have to assume that Stewart will be unavailable for Week 13 at Kansas City and likely for Week 14 versus the Falcons. DeAngelo Williams will reclaim the starting job and should be owned in 12-team leagues. Lacking explosion due to September toe and ankle injuries, Stewart is looking at a lost season.

Jonathan Stewart (high-ankle sprain) was held out of Wednesday's practice.

Coach Ron Rivera has yet to rule Stewart out for Week 13, but if he's truly dealing with a high sprain, there's a zero percent chance he'll suit up against the Chiefs. "We'll see how he responds to the treatment," Rivera said. "I saw him coming in today walking. He looked OK. But I'm optimistic." We'd ultimately expect DeAngelo Williams to get the start against Kansas City.

Jonathan Stewart (high ankle sprain) was held out of practice again on Thursday.

Stewart has been walking without the aid of crutches, and coach Ron Rivera has labeled him "day to day" for Week 13. The details suggest Stewart's sprain may not be of the syndesmotic variety after all, though his status for Sunday's game at Kansas City is clearly in doubt.

Panthers officially declared RB Jonathan Stewart inactive (ankle) against the Chiefs.

DeAngelo Williams will draw his first start in quite some time. Carolina also ruled quarterback Jimmy Clausen, receiver David Gettis, cornerback James Dockery, linebacker Doug Hogue, tackle Bruce Campbell, and defensive end Antwan Applewhite inactive for Sunday's game.
