Week 1 Loss to the Redskins.

I think the Saints win that game with Payton....

I think the Saints are a 8-8 or a 9-7 team without him.....

your thoughts

Here is a stat to back that up. Saints only ran the ball 16% of their plays in Week 1. Brees threw it 52 times. I think thats a sign of Brees having too much power in play calling...

I remember seeing an interview after their SB win where Brees talked about the relationship those two have and how Payton keeps Brees grounded, and how often Payton points things out that Brees would of missed

The thing that stuck out to me last week was that it wasn't just RG3 running and throwing in space , but the skins put the smash mouth on them. There were a couple of plays that were borderline late hits and/or cheapshots.

Me thinks that all the other teams did away with their bounty programs b/c of the Saints getting busted and players are going to take out their aggressions on the saints.

By the time the season is over the Saints will be the most beat up and injured team in the NFL.

I hope last weeks fiasco was due to 2 things. Taking Washington to lightly and the new defense with a new coach and a lot of new players not being in sync yet.

Obviously the linemakers think it was a fluke as they are fav by 3 on the road. If they play like last week this game is a Blowout for Carolina. Guess thats y i suck at NFL games cus i cant believe anyone would bet N.O. this week, im shocked they are not 8 point dogs..

The Saints have absolutely no defense. They are an Over play for the year. Whether Sean Payton was coaching them or not, he couldn't solve that problem. It has been that way for the last couple of years.

Saints would be 2-0 with Payton.
As I have said for 5 years. Payton is at least the 2nd best coach in the NFL if not THE best.

Saints have a lot of talent on defense. Trying to learn spags new system.
I understand the Giants gave up 80 points his 1st 2 games as DC in 07 and started 0-2. The Giants would go on to win the SuperBowl that year.

I am not saying the Saints are going to win the Super Bowl this year. As a matter of fact im saying they wont go to the SB. Not going to happen without Payton. I think Payton effects his teams performance more then any other coach in the NFL.

But with all that being said im also not going to say the Saints are going to crawl into a hole of obscurity.
The Saints will right the Ship and finish at least 9-7 if not 10-6 and make the playoffs.

Thats a huge downgrade from the last 4 years.

With Payton this very team that you have watched the last 2 weeks would have been another 12 to 14 win team like the last 3 years.

Believe it or not, on paper the Saints are more talented on D right now then any year in the Payton era.

So lets not write it all off yet.

One other note.
Even with Payton and Greg Williams the Saints have always struggled with mobile QB's
It has been a plaque to this team for years.

The Saints record against mobile qb's is horrible for the last 6 years.

So far we have played RG3 and Cam Newton.

Lets see what happens against a less mobile guy like Matt Cassel

Matt Cassel is actually pretty mobile and would fall under the "mobile QBs" banner.

He just isn't very good so Saints should roll.

Most people underestimate the roll of the head coach. Not saying people on here do, but casual fans. To win without your head coach is a tough task and undoubtedly the Saints are feeling his loss right now. They win 10 games with Payton this year. Without him, I don't see them winning 8. Like you said in the second post, Brees has too much power now, Payton didn't run it a ton, but he knew how to use his running game. They're in shambles sans Payton.
